Hey all. Got a sgs2 and loove the phone but it has one issue that drives me crazy. On the left side of the screen there is this yellowish tint to the screen. Mostly visible over white or gray and still faintly visible with the screen on max brightness.

I was wondering if anyone else has this issue. I assume my phone is fairly newer because it had KE7 on it when I received it last Friday.

I got it from unlocked mobiles UK and imported to USA. Wondering what I should do? I did a google search and it seems others have this issue as well so I was wondering is this common or with all handsets? Should I contact unlocked mobiles or go to Samsung themselves?

I have the same exact issue with my device that shipped with KE7 as well. Not sure what we could do though. If you find out, update this thread!

Yes it is actually running down the entire left side of the screen for maybe about half an inch to 3/4 of an inch inwards to the middle, fading the closer to the middle it goes.

I'm trying to figure out if it is firmware or hardware to blame. It is actually quite bothersome.

It's difficult for me to see it on full brightness but much more noticeable when in a dark area or at night. The entire left side of the screen is yellow where the rest of the screen is much whiter. My iPhone 4 had the same tint issue but on the bottom of the screen. I guess I'm just cursed.

i'm not sure guys. this sounds more like hardware. i would think it would be hard to fix this via firmware but i could be dead wrong.

I think you're right about that too but I am hopeful it's just an odd software glitch as it took me forever to get this phone and would be a pain in the arse to have to return and wait for a new one. Especially if I will be sent one with the same issue.

thanks for the link. i can confirm that i have no yellow screen tint

HOWEVER, on a gray screen, like what's within the thread linked above, i have a noticeable circle which almost looks like screen burn in about the size of a nickle (but it's not because there's nothing on my phone with this shape). no matter what brightness i set it to, you can see this circle on a gray screen. can't see it on anything else on the phone. not even a white screen. so i guess this is my first defect :p

it will be interesting to see if Samsung does a recall of the ones with faulty displays. i doubt they will though, tbh. would take a whole bunch of customers complaining.

I think its possible that every single SGS2 out there in the wild has this yellow tint defect :(, but at varying degrees of severity. Everybodys eyes are also different, so the yellow tint on one unit be obvious to one user, but to a different user with the same unit, they might not notice anything? A few members on the XDA thread seem to suggest that the tint is a defect caused by the manufacturing process used to make the screens. What the majority of people agree on tho is it can generally only be seen on a grey screen, at around 20% brightness. So does this affect the majority of the publics usage?

No device is ever gonna be perfect, unfortunatly.

Ian :)

I can actually see it in the web browser also and any text or icons on my homescreen on that side look ever so slightly yellowed.. grey shows it the most though I feel and it is very obvious on the notification pulldown. It looks almost like cigarette residue is on the screen. For an 800 dollar phone the screen is not something I consider to be acceptably flawed. I hope they make this right..

This "defect" is present in most phones and I think it is SOFTWARE related. When my phone came I noticed this problem and it was quite obvious regardless of brightness. Upon updating to a new firmware + kernal the problem disappeared. Running Cyanogen mod at the moment with Chainfire root and I have no yellow tinge.

Mine has the same, the left side of the screen is warm while the right side of the screen is cool. I only really notice it on white backgrounds/pages and it doesn't bother me.

Please don't take this the wrong way but the best thing you can do is just not let it bother you. Screens are rarely completely perfect and I doubt you'd ever be satisfied if you let things like this bother you.

Just had my screen replaced after an internal breakage and to my dismay the yellow tint has appeared. Mainly left hand side of the screen, more noticable in the upper corner. It was replaced at an official Samsung Service centre. The previous screen was perfect. This new one seems darker overall. Not happy at all.

Did the yellow tint appear gradually over time or was it there as soon as you received your phone back from repair?

Ive just bought this device today but have been reading up on potential problems that may occur, and to be honest i was half expecting every problem going, but so far so good, no screen issues or anything else. :)

I do not have this issue and I am VERY very picky with my phones, to the point of returning a HTC Desire to Orange five times in the space of a few weeks due to screen defects.

My SGS 2 screen is absolutely spot on.

Lol i know what you mean, i had exactly the same problems with my desire, thats why im so paranoid with this phone, just dont want history repeating itself :(

I'm going through the same sh*t with my S2, replaced it 3 times for dead/stuck pixels issues and my third one has stuck and dead pixels too. I've had 3 S2 in hands and each one has dead or stuck pixels, of course they all have that yellow tint on the left, but that's not bothering me that much. I do care about the dead pixels though... :(
