I know, this isnt truly a root question or post, but i have had my evo for a year and it has been great. It has been rooted almost the entire time except when my charging port went out and i had to wait for new root exploit. What I want to know is who is gonna get the EVO 3d and Root it.

Assuming the bootloader is unlocked at launch, I will.

Assuming a root exploit for the Evo 3D is found, I will likely root it. And in case you haven't seen, there's already been some discussion in the Evo 3D All Things Root subforum, mostly related to bootloader stuff.

EVO 3D - All Things Root - Android Forums

We're basically waiting to see what bootloader will ship with the Evo 3D. They announced on May 26 that they will no longer be locking bootloaders. Radio Shack has an online Evo 3D simulator that actually shows screenies of the Evo 3D's ENG HBOOT, which is unlocked by design. Will that ship as the production HBOOT? Wouldn't that be awesome :) It would outdo anything any manufacturer has done in terms of relaxing bootloader security.

While I'm not confident that the production bootloader will come unlocked out of the box, I am confident that it won't be protected with an encrypted signature. Otherwise, HTC will be made a big fat liar for what they said on May 26.

novox, could you move this thread to the proper place or just remove it entirely.... i dont see how this is pertinant to this forum.....

Sooo many evo owners plan to buy it I think is why everyone feels to post here. I agree though...isn't there a "will you get the 3d" thread in general and in the 3d forum?

I have little interest in it. I can't see 3d because I am colorblind. That and my evolution is just fine.

Well, i know but since i have spent my time here since ive had the evo, i thought id ask here. if you dont like it, dont read it

Ok, the request was reasonable, novox77 already had moved the thread by the time of this reply.

Please don't tell others what to do, please let us do the modding, cheers, many thanks. ;)

Essentially my thought too. Apparently, someone over at XDA has the 3D in hand (with the ENG S-OFF), and is trying to dump it. Starts @ Post 15.

When will the 3D be rooted with S OFF? - xda-developers

If the link isn't kosher, Mods please delete it by all means. I try to talk about other forums as little as possible, but in this case, could be something of a development...

I logged into the IRC over there and watched him type while going through the process of setting up adb and then dumping the various .bins. bootloader, and system to the microSD. Really cool stuff even though I understood little to none of it and still am unclear on what exactly he dumped for them. I had some of the screen grabs of the file system logs through adb and such but my net crashed and lost the links to them. He was pasting logs as he went so that others could help guide him.
He uploaded the dumps to one of the XDA devs to clean up, get started with, and distribute to other devs. Hopefully they can make something out of them!

Public Service Announcement -

We're way OK with XDA, where would we rooters be without them?!?

We do get tiffy over links to blogs that are self-serving - you know, the ones that have that taste of pork shoulder and ham, aka spam.

If you would like to link to something that credits someone else as your source of info, even on a "competing" forum, you go right ahead. As our rules say, links here and there are fine, when your posts are predominantly about links elsewhere, then we start to question you.

Some see our practices here as link Nazis but we're really just trying to be Easy Company and stamp out spam Nazis. If one of your links gets erased around here, just drop one of us mods a line for review and restoration as required. ;)

that poor guy... the whole Evo-loving world was depending on him to dump the ROM :)

Unless I won it or get it for free/cheap(er) than listed price, I probably won't be getting the 3D until a few months after launch so hopefully by then or sooner, an exploit will already be found. I was about 3 months late getting into the original Evo and when I did it already had its exploits made for me to use.

Damn Sprint won't let me get my annual upgrade so I might not even get the first 3D Sprint phone :(

Evo root exploit was out before the phone was released. Thanks to a huge flood of Evos given away at Google IO 2010. And I believe they ALL had the ENG HBOOT loaded on them.

Which is similar to the situation we're in today with the 3VO. There are already people out there with 3VOs loaded with the unlocked ENG HBOOT. It's only a matter of getting that ROM dump to a developer. That thread above tracks some poor guy who discovers he has the ENG HBOOT and then he's bombarded with people either calling him a liar or yelling at him to dump the ROM.

Well, the ROM got dumped and is in the hands of one of the forefathers of E4G rooting (toastcfh). So things are looking pretty good.

so, the rom was dumped, and that means that the dev who got the dump is now working on it?

If he successfully 'roots' it and the steps are available on or near release day, that will mean we can root the phone, and have administrative powers over the device while still running Sense 3.0?

If that is the case, will i be able to get Tethering & remove bloatware? that is all i really want to root my phone for. If a nice Custom ROM comes out that enables me to throttle back the processing power so i am not juicing the battery all the time, that would be a plus but not a necessity.

I was in that thread that night and nobody was yelling at anyone.
No bombarding or accusations either as I recall.

I suppose reading it back you don't get a sense of the time that elapsed between posts.

Yeah i think you're right. I read the entire thread in about 5 min, so yeah it was basically wading through a bunch of OMG get this man some help already! Is it dumped yet??? But yeah, it was positive yelling :)

I thought the interesting takeaway was: who knows how many people out there have E3Ds with ENG (english lol) bootloaders, but if none of them happen to connect with the rooting community, then the phone could potentially stay locked (assuming HTC didn't change their policy).

I look forward to running E3D on the ENG bootloader. I prefer it over unrevoked's s-on/off switch flip. Just a preference :)
