Nexus One to come to verizon for $300 subsidy?

I'm new here, and I have a limited budget to spend on my next verizon phone. I was thinking about the Droid, or the Nexus One if it was low enough. I came across a website that said Nexus One would cost around $300 for verizon. Any thoughts?

That says a $300 subsidy, not subsidized cost. I interpret that as $529-$300=$229 subsidized. Seems like complete hearsay at this point. I read awhile back that Verizon was pushing to limit the subsidized cost of all future devices to a max of $199 on a 2 year contract. To date, even the big devices like the Droid and the Omnia II have come in at $199. The Pre Plus is also supposed to be $199. That being said, the N1 is a third party device not being carried by Verizon so the terms could be different in this case. I wouldn't be surprised to see it go for $199 subsidized. No more, no less.

Why not? It's not a "Verizon" phone. It's a Google phone. As I understand it, the $199 price + 2-yr contract applies only to VERIZON branded phones, not Google branded phones. That being said, I believe it is very plausible that the N1 for VZW can be just about any price VZW wants it to be, including more than $199. I don't see any reason for VZW to cut Google/N1 a break on pricing as the whole model itself competes/threatens the very infrastructure that VZW has been profitable with for many, many years. In fact, I would venture that they'd make it more expensive JUST SO that Verizon-branded products would be the more attractive option to consumers.

I will certainly be called the Nexus One and available on the phone website. It certainly won't carry the DROID moniker (like the DROID Eris).

if $300 I would say it would be like the Droid. $299 on a 2 year contract ($350 maybe for 1 year contract for new subscribers) with a $100 mail in rebate bringing it to $199 total purchase for 2 years.

Not surprising to me if it is. VZW may conceivably wait until the DROID gets a stable 2.1 with enough sell-time in between it and the release of the N1 on VZW. That way, it can do another push of the DROID featuring 2.1, capture a few more customers on a Verizon-branded phone before the Google-branded N1 is out.

I read somewhere speculating maybe March 23rd. Can't remember where.

Yeah, I'm willing to bet on this. Haven't heard any news about Sense playing nice with 2.1, but if it's indeed done, then that'll be a nice VZW-branded "superphone". Priced at $199 + 2yr contract, I'm willing to bet that VZW is going to position the N1 price tag ABOVE this HTC phone, thereby invalidating the N1 altogether. VZW all along has said there would be two flagship Android phones, representing two different form-factors: keyboard and no keyboard.
