2.1 android verizon what will it include

Hello kinda new to this but was just curious as to what perks 2.1 android will have over the 2.0? I currently thinking about purchasing the droid and have heard talk about the 2.1 being great but no real clear details on what it will offer over exsisting OS. also the moto droid has 3 customizable home screens i have heard rumor that it will go to 5 has anyone heard the same thing?

lol i love it how most forums i've been to get stump at this particular question :D awesome.

Anyway to answer your question @stepprichard; there's not official release date for the Moto Droid update from 2.0.1 to 2.1. However according to rumors the update will tentatively take place on January 22nd. BTW if anyone has official proof of this i would love to know about it too; because all i've been able to find so far is comments speculating this date. cheers everyone.

Prior to the announcement of 2.1, January 22 was the 2nd scheduled service update per an internal Verizon memo that can be found online. Whether it will remain a service update or "convert" to a 2.1 release is up in the air. But check your phones this Friday anyway.

according to ruben, 2.1 will include speech-to-text.

I'm running 2.1 now and can say yes, it does include speech-to-text and it works REALLY well.

Will speech to text work OK with my midwestern drawl? How about my husband's cute eastern Pennsylvania accent? Ten will get you twenty that it won't work with my boss' Pittsburgh accent! Anyone care to take bets? We can make it a forum game or something.

The funniest thing: The three of us insist that we don't have accents!

Good questions. I'm from CT where we don't have any annoying accents :p So all I can say is if you don't have an accent, you should be good to go.

What about flash? Isnt that on 2.1?

It is doubtful that Flash is on 2.1. Flash is developed by Adobe, not Google. They have not given a release date yet for Flash, but it was running (in beta form) on Droids at CES. I could never find the guy to see one in person though (a guy from Adobe was wondering between the Moto booth and the Adobe booth with Droids with flash)...

i read google used many people with all accents to "train" the text to spech software so you should be good to go. i know i am ok, being that I am from Delaware, we are the first state, so we don't have an accent.

I don't know if it was ever confirmed, but it was always suspected that they used their automated 411 services (1-800-GOOG-411) to help train the speech to text. That would have gotten all kinds of accents.

x2

Verizon reps will have no knowledge of a flash release date. Often times, they don't even know updates are available until the day of the actual update.

Its a verizon thing.

Sometimes even after the update as most people experienced with the updates for the LG Dare. After v5 they just sort of stopped trying but a lot of people were on 3 but some reps had no idea. (At the release of the phone, they claimed that the phone was capable of OTA updates but they all had to be done at the store.)
