Root How to root the HTC DESIRE HD running gingerbread update

Hello Frendz,

I am not very used to these forums and I hope it is not a problem to seek help in this forum.

So, yesterday HTC sent an upgrade to the factory default OS (i.e. 2.2 froyo) on my DHD and I happily upgraded to 2.3 Gingerbread. Now, before updating I had permanent root :cool:access on my desire through Visionary but just after the update I realised I do not have root anymore.

Anybody reckon Bubby's method will work for HTC Desire HD as well, I mean locked on a UK network.....I am running Latest Update that's Gingerbread. I have 2 more quick questions if anybody is kind enough to provide me the answers:

1.) Before the Gingerbread update, My phone had a 2.2 Froyo as factory default with root access through visionary but I lost it after the update. SO, when I root using this method would I still be able to keep root access when I update to gingerbread again.

2.) Also, Please someone explain to me why we need two SD Cards when Goldcard is the only one we use during installation......would really appreciate any help.......!

Thanks

Just use Gingerbreak and follow the AMT tool. (However Gingerbreak isn't certified yet to be completely flawless everytime for everyone. You may need to downgrade will point you to that if you do.)

Here is Gingerbreak: [26.04.2011][v1.2] GingerBreak APK (root for GingerBread) - xda-developers

Here is the tool to root everything etc: Update: 25/05/11 - AMT v1.7 - Sim Unlock, S-OFF, Downgrade - Added Auto Detection! - xda-developers

Goldcards are just required when flashing ROMs when you don't have Radio S-OFF and SuperCID or the standard unbranded CID to confuse the phone to thinking you have the default HTC_001 CID to flash unbranded OTA. If your rooting you may as well go ENG HBOOT S-OFF, Radio S-OFF, Sim Unlock, SuperCID and forget standard OTA RUU ROMS. Can highly recommend LeeDroid ;). Then you can forget ever using your Goldcard again lol

Thanks for a quick reply brother. Would you happen to have a link to any good Lee Droid guide for rooting. Also, I seek your opinion in terms of the Lee Droid UI, as I am looking for something as close to stock as possible and if its feasible to keep sense as well, I would be on cloud nine.

Though, I am open to all options, just being reluctant as its my first go at flashing ever. And, also the reason being, I Love my Desire HD.

:D

PS: And, also what would happen to my warranty. How difficult/easy it is to switch back to stock, in case I need to file a claim with insurance guys. Please advice.

Did you get S-OFF while on froyo ? if not then you will need to downgrade back to froyo (ver 1.32), get S-OFF, upgrade to gingerbread then run gingerbreak. Otherwise with S-ON you will only get temp root

Thanks for replying mate. No, I did not have S-Off and probably thats the reason when I tried Gingerbreak, it did not work. Just to let you know I have a unbranded phone locked on 3 network.

Do you reckon if I downgrade, S-Off and upgrade then Gingerbreak should work. Also, sorry for being silly but if I downgrade, how would I be able to upgrade again......No idea?

Also I am using LeeDrOiD [ROM]LeeDrOiD HD V3.0.3 GB [KERNEL] V3.1.2 >EPIC!< 24th May | Official GB | TV Anim - xda-developers and it is almost identical to stock except a hell of alot faster and better on the battery.

That is the latest LeeDrOiD Gingerbread Rom and it is pre rooted aswell.

All of the steps needed to downgrade and root are listed in a post I made here. The 2nd paragraph details what you need to do in what order and links to instructions on how to do them.

where do you see this info?

I have an DhD and when i look in About my phone->SW information I can only see the Android version, HTC Sense version, Baseband version, Kernel version, Buil number, SW number & Browser version but nothing about the boatloader, Radio, ROM version

I think that's at the bootloader screen, if you hold the volume down button whilst turning the phone on, you'll be taken to a white screen called HBOOT where you can amongst other things, factory reset your phone.

The screen which you are looking at lists some of those things too. SW Number = ROM Version and Baseband = Radio.

i've tried the instructions to downgrade, but i guess ROM Version: 2.42.415.1 can't be downgraded at the moment...

Thanks anyways, but please post if any updates come up :)
