How much battery life do you get?

Well I just ordered my Epic last night on Ebay and I am expecting it to be delievered on Thursday/Friday. In the meantime, I was wondering how much battery life you get on yours? How long does the battery last with no ROM/ROOT, just as stock?

My mother recently got an Epic (only way I could tell you, mine isn't stock), and hers is completely stock. She told me shes getting an easy 12+ hours out of hers (granted she doesn't do much web browsing... but she talks and texts a lot).

i'm stock, with stock battery. i surf (some downloads), use news reader app, facebook, twitter, tapatalk, read emails (rarely composes), occasional phone calls and SMS on daily basis. other days i might use other apps, camera, photo upload, dropbox, etc. most usage is via wifi. that said, on heavy usage days, it's 8 hours or so. i plug it in every night before bed, occasionally during the day also.

Gingerbread supposed to help, so looking forward to that. plus, it supposed to fix/improve the radios, so that will help, too.

edit: i have my brightness setting at lowest level. occasionally increase to about 1/3 when outdoor.

Well i am by no means a phone nut but my battery seems to last only a few hours. (2-3) 5 min or so phone calls (3-4) text messages and a check on a few ballgame scores and battery down to 72% by lunch time down in the 60's by time i get home at 6-7pm pown to 40% another 2-3 short calls (1-2)mins and get the shut off i must charge phone by 9pm . oh my day starts at 7am. not impressed with the battery at all and my day starts with 100% charged battery

14 hours sounds decent to me. Your phone is completely stock? Are you rooted? Stock battery?

I get over 48 hours easily. The key, I think, is that I turn off my 3G via SwitchPro widget when I'm not using data services. With 3G off you can still make and receive phone calls and texts. Voicemail won't download, but you can still check it the old fashioned way. Turning off 3G will also suspend all background syncs. I just turn it on when I need it.



p.s. I rarely let my phone get below 50% before charging it. So theoretically, I probably can get almost 4 full days before a dead battery.

So why did you spend the money on a smartphone if you are only going to use the phone part. Duh!

You click the button to turn it back on. I often do the same thing. I don't need my phone to be a smartphone when I'm sitting at my desk or when the phone is in my pocket, so why let the battery drain like one! When I do want/need it to be a smartphone I turn 3g back on.

Exactly. I'm not allowed to carry my phone at work anyway (don't ask), so it's always in my locker. I don't need it to be a smartphone when I'm asleep either.

the background synch stuff is so you have the latest information right when you wake up the phone. hence, if you don't mind manually pulling it, then that's a good way to save battery. also, radio reception has a lot to do with it, too. if bad reception, then it takes longer to pull/push data, hence uses more battery.

Juice Defender wouldn't work for me because I have an irregular work schedule which also cause me to have an irregular sleep schedule.

I don't understand what you mean. Juice Defender shuts off data when you're not using it. You don't have to tell it to, beyond turning the app on. It just does.

I have mine on the basic/recommended setting that turns data on when you turn the screen back on. I'm sure one of the more aggressive settings or the "custom" option will allow you to do like what you're talking about..using the phone as just a phone and only turn on data when you open an app that uses data, or browser, etc.

I'm going to look into that right now, actually, and I will update. I'm using the free version, btw. There is a paid version.

I'm not suggesting you switch. I'm just letting people know there is an app with similar settings for free. I understand that Switcherpro does more, too.. Just throwing this info out there.

I understand what you're saying ford, but for me, using a toggle widget (SwitchPro) is simple and easy enough.

The only thing I can say about my Epic's battery life is that it is completely unpredictable and the indicator means nothing.
Some nights it'll sit idle on my night stand and only drain 5% overnight. Some nights it'll start off 75% charged and be completely dead by morning. Usually I leave it on the charger.

I have noticed that any time I use the camcorder, my battery life afterwards is abysmal. After closing the camera app, my phone will continue to run hot when idle, even though there don't appear to be any programs or services running. Fast enough to drain a fully charged battery in less than an hour.

So now, any time I use the camcorder, I have to reboot my phone afterwards to keep my battery from draining. That's annoying to say the least but I'm not sure if it's an OS (Froyo) issue or a Samsung issue.

Oh yeah, and there have been a couple times when I've rebooted the phone at 40% battery remaining, and 2 minutes later it boots up telling me 15% remaining. I also get frequent black screens (where the buzzer just keeps buzzing at random intervals and the 4 buttons are lit up). In those situations I have to remove the battery to restart the phone. I'm beginning to really hate this thing...

I get that reboot/battery life thing, too. Sometimes my phone just completely freezes up, and I have to pull the battery and reboot. When I do, it is generally at least 20% lower than before the reboot. Sometimes, it is completely dead.
