Bionic to be released 2 months after D3! (august) + specs?

The way I understand it is this, if you upgrade to a phone before the tiered data plan goes into effect, then you'll have until the next time you upgrade a phone before you'll be required to go on the tiered data plan. When you upgrade you're revising your contract to extend it

If you upgrade your phone after tiered data is in place, then you'll have to change to the tiered data, from what I understand. But until you do, you'll still be on your original plan. If you don't get a phone for another 2 years, then you'll still have unlimited data.

I think I need to start working for Verizon to supplement my cell phone addiction.

VZW folks do not even know what will actually happen. The common theme by most employees (sales, managers and corp reps) is the following:

1. We do not really know, but our educated guess is....
a. 3G and 4G contracts to this point in time are the same
b. When your contract is over, grandfathering remains UNTIL you use another discount.

This would makes sense, since it is a natural and less invasive way of reducing the install base of unlimited users. People that REALLY want unlimited will pay full price for a device, but most others will consider the total cost of the data, verses paying full price and may get the discount and the tiered data.

I would suggest though that through time, more folks will migrate to smaller tablets and use wifi, rather than deal with high price phones and higher priced data. 4G and tiered data is a pure contradiction in premise and will BACKFIRE at some point in time.

Is this the release date thread? When is this sucker getting released?

If a dual core:

By July = 60%
By August = 80%
By September = 100%

If a quad core:

By July = 0%
By August = .01%
By September = 1%
By ...... Point is, a quad core is not in mass production yet, so the cost curve would KILL Motorola.

The current speculations are either August or July. It was originally looking like August, but some comments were made over on AC forums by a very reputable source that it is July.

We shall see...

Also, it's nice to see familiar faces from the old Incredible speculation thread. The level of obsession in that thread made these Bionic forum folks look tame.

I don't think Bionic will have quad core. It's just not ready yet for LTE. I bet it will be OMAP4 dual core with higher clock speed above 1Ghz. Looks like both GSII and Bionic is coming around the same timeframe. I'm very curious if GSII (Function) will have LTE or not. This fall will be great time for phone shoppers on verizon.

I got a Charge yesterday and don't really care for some of the features. I'm having to use a lot of 3rd party apps just to get by on basic stuff.

I've always been more partial to motorola devices in the past. Is the general opinion that the Droid Bionic is going to be an overall better device than the Charge???

Detail of revamped Bionic is still unknown. But it's given that it will blow off Charge easily, actually any current phone on verizon for that matter. Its only worthy rival will be Samsung GSII which tops iPhone4 sales already in U.K.

I think verizon will release the bionic over the summer and wait to release the function like they did with the fascinate last year. They released the droid x and droid 2 in june and july and then sept the fascinate came out.

I agree it was the same way with text messaging years ago. At first people didnt really use them(compared to now) and they didnt have unlimited plans and then they moved to them. I feel more people are using more data so in the long run this is going to back fire by tiering plans. Verizon already said it is cheaper to operate 4g than it is 3g so then why do they need to raise prices? I would rather my calling plan price go up by $5 or so rather then having less data for the same price ive been paying. Not to mention not having unlimited anymore.

I would love to know how you came to this conclusion because I might need you to start picking my stocks.

Truth in the matter is none of us know how Verizon will roll out the tiered plans. Best case scenario would be what you are suggesting. Worst case scenario would be any new 4g phone you get after they implement 4g would be subject to the new plans. In the middle would be getting grandfathered in if you already have a 4g phone. I am just hoping they give us a heads up or somehow the plans leak.

Agree I would hope they would give a heads up to how the new tiered plans will work and whether or not they will grandfather you in once you sign a new contract if you already have unlimited data. I mean at&t did that they allowed those who had unlimited to keep unlimited even after they upgraded again as long as they did not remove the data from their plan.

Probably GSII function will come within a few months of Bionic. Rumor has that Samsung is working on LTE version of GSII clocking at 1.7Ghz with LTE radio chip integrated as SoC into AP. So Samsung Function is even more mysterious to me than Bionic. Will it be this monster or just 3G/CDMA SGSII or 3G/4G LTE SGSII with thicker form factor?

Nobody knows with verizon although they do seem to get everything last so if they are just working on a gs2 with LTE i would say it probably wont come out until november or so. Especially since the bionic will most likely be droid branded and verizon wants to get as many sales out of it as they can and if there is word of another phone just around the corner it could hurt the sales of the bionic.

It maybe so. But you are also under assumption that Verizon will push Motorola more with Droid brand than Samsung like they did last year. But if they feel like Samsung makes better dual core LTE phone than Bionic, they might do Droid branding with GSII, something like Droid Function. Who would have thought Samsung will get Droid Charge name for their first LTE phone? I agree that at this point all this is speculation though.

I have to go check out an EVO or Thunderbolt to see if the 4.3 is too big. It might actually be nice..

I dont think I would get a 4.5 inch. If the phone has a signed bootloader on top of it, this phone is completely out of the question.

Droid X, Droid X2 will never be great phones since they have signed bootloaders. Not being able to change the kernel (the engine of the phone) is a complete disaster.

If this had an unlocked bootloader and 4 inch screen (maybe 4.3 - I have to test one out) it would be absolutely amazing. 4.5" and signed bootloader and this phone is kind of a joke.

I may not have a new phone for a long time since no new releases fit my requirements. :(

I feel your pain. I've got monster hands, so the size isn't an issue for me, but if this thing comes out with an encrypted bootloader, I'm waiting for the SGS2. I would be sad to settle for no LTE, as I live in an LTE market, but I have to get one of the two. My girlfriend's Eris is on its last leg, and she's getting my DInc when I upgrade.

Too bad we didn't the the Sensation. That looks like a sick phone.

Jinwons,

Where did you read rumor of 1.7 ghz SGS2 with LTE? No way is that coming out.

1.7 is too big of a jump. Have to leave some 4om for incremental upgrades or it'll be a tough act to follow. People forget that part.

Maybe he mean't 1.2 GHZ? (SGSII is actually 1.2 but underclocked to 1.0 ghz) The ORIG Processor speed is 1.2 GHZ and my OG droid was 800 mhz (downclocked to 600 mhz) but could get overclocked to 1.2 GHZ - 4 ghz jump
1.2+.4 = 1.6 GHZ so maybe a mistake

No, I really meant 1.7Ghz. I don't know what makes you think SGSII is underclocked to 1.0Ghz, it is at 1.2Ghz right now. It was originally planned for 1Ghz but it was bumped up to 1.2Gz a few months before the first release.

I heard that rumor news from my Korean colleague and he gave me a news article on it from Korea. Here is that link. You need to translate it to English with google. But it's not certain yet if this will be upgraded Exynos or Snapdragon 8960 that supports LTE.

4.5?? ???S2 LTE?? 9? ??? ???? - ???? IT??? ??! ????

Added: Looks like google translation on that link above is quite clumsy. I found this one too. Looks like they say it will have qualcomm MSN8960 @1.7Ghz
