Where the Sakura grows
So, my company is doing this challange to get the employees more active called the Global Corporate Challange (GCC). You are given a pedometer to track your daily steps, at the end of the day (early next day) you enter your steps on the GCC website. You are in a team of 7 and your daily steps are average and you are scored against other groups in your company as well as all of the companies participating. Your team steps are mapped and the steps you take takes you around the world. This challange is for 16 weeks (I think). This challange first started in Austrailia (I think I see a trend with the Austrialians)

As this is something global and members here are from all over the world, I was wondering if you are doing this challange with your company. It would be interesting to see how many are participating in here :)

If you're interested you can check out the website: http://www.gettheworldmoving.com/

My average steps this week is 17,878 steps. My best steps record is 24,875. On the website it says that to the least number of steps you should take a day is 10,000 steps to maintain a healthy life style.

Cheers,
Roze

Hiya Roze....We arent here, but I have a few friends that randomly started to wear pedo's b/c of their company. Im sure that has to do with GCC.

haha, you can get your hospital to participate. I think everyone at a hospital walk around A LOT so you guys will do well. Kind of expensive imo...but it's 'expensed' by the company, lol.

It's a private institution so the money is definitely there. Last year, I do recall the wellness coordinator (I do IT work in the Employee Health & Wellness dept) doing something with pedometers but it wasn't this global event you are talking about currently.

That sounds a pretty good idea. Incidentally, roughly how far is 10,000 steps?

10,000 yards, traditionally.

^^ I was only 1km off lol.
I don't understand yards XD
Anyway, it's a good idea if they can make it competitive enough. Do they offer any prizes? The company should an inter-departmental competition.
Top team in each company gets a trophy. I'm not sure what's the prize for the top team globally.

I'm not a fan of the whole "count your steps" thing, but if you are usually inactive I guess it could be motivating to get some exercise. However, I think buying pedometers on a large scale might be a little expensive. ;)

It's a cool challenge though. :p

They could just buy everyone the latest and greatest android phone and require everyone to dnld a pedo from the market. Make everyone happy!

Company expense the cost, lol. You get 2 pedometer, a GCC knapsack and a GCC ball cap.

Hey guys,

Just got my first Android yesterday... Heaven, and I just came across this post... Considering I work for Global Corporate Challenge, thought I'd jump in!

You're right with top teams getting trophies. We give a special trophy to the top team globally. Currently it's a New Zealand team, I talked to their team captain on the phone last week. They're killing it!

Many companies have competitions in-house, they can get pretty competitive. We try not to promote the 'competitiveness' of the challenge too much, because we are really trying to make those who are inactive become a bit more active, and they may not be able to keep up with all the competitive GCCers, and get disheartened.

What's your team name Roze? I'd love to see how you're going!

Kane.

Welcome to AndroidForums Kane :) Team is 'winning', we're 6th place in the company...trying to get to the top 5, lol.

The teams that are in the top 5 (world wide) are from New Zealand/Austrailia...I believe the members don't have a 9-5 office desk job, lol. There's no way they can get that much steps working in front of the computer 8+ hours a day.

This is a good initiative for the health.... I remember having a pedometer on my W580i phone..Had disabled that option as it was annoying to me. Though I am not overweight, I think I walk around a lot when I am not in office. BTW I think there should also be a similar drive for eating healthy food. I believe most of the snacks in office are not healthy. We do not have many options while in office other than to eat those unhealthy snacks
