Help Notification Problems & Battery

I just activated my phone on May 31. This is my first real smart phone and I am just clueless. When I set it up a couple days ago. I was getting notifications for my email(@) account. But, suddenly today I am not getting them. I just went on the computer and saw my hotmail account had five e-mails. I checked my phone and they were there, but no notification. Is there anything I can do? Also I also noticed the battery problem . Being a clueless newbie, I really don't know what direction to turn as I read the sticky and the battery threads and English is my first language, but I just don't understand them. I need kindergarten English to explain to me what I should do besides buy another battery. Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise me!

My battery seems to be improving with age and so is my learning thanks to this site. My notifications are intermittent, it is better than nothing. I love the phone and I love this site, even though no one replied me.

The battery does improve with age. If you search "battery" you'll find a lot of tips for extending battery life

The battery appears to improve with age for two reasons:

1) The battery's chemistry actual needs a slight break in period for peak efficiency, though this is the lesser reason

2) The main reason is when you first get your phone, especially if you are a new Android user, you play with it alot, installing apps, checking out settings, etc. After a few days to a week, you don't actually use it as much, even though you may not realize it.

One of the main reasons the Optimus V has poor battery life is the wifi drivers aren't great, and the wifi supplicant scan interval is set to a pretty short time period. This can only be solved by rooting and either installing a custom ROM with this taken care of, or editing the build.prop to set the scan interval to a high number (I use 300, which means it only checks for wifi once every 5 minutes, default is every minute).

Then there is the bloatware that comes with the stock ROM, such as Where, which suck battery juice whether you use them or not, and stubbornly restart even if you stop their services. Once again, this can be solved by rooting and either force-uninstalling them with special apps, or installing a custom ROM which has removed them.

You can find custom ROMs that are pretty much stock with the bloatware and wifi issues resolved, or go for the latest android version with a CM7 port. Read the sticky threads in the rooting subforums for more info.

I've had this problem too--inconsistent notifications--with the stock email app when I first got the phone. I've downloaded, and currently using, the K-9 Email app instead. Email is working now as it should--with much greater control and customization of the notifications. This solved the problem for me. Try it out... if K-9 is not to your liking, you might try some other email clients.

This is in reply to JerryScript's post.......Android App manager has allowed me to force stop all......all the bloatware, and they stay stopped. You can backup apps to SDcard that are on the internal memory,uninstall,clear call logs,clear browser history and search,clear clipboard,clear SMS,check for updates on most installed apps,and a few more things that I haven't figured out yet. The "V" that it is installed on is not rooted!
