I think what you are trying to do. You will need to have the picture you wish to use for that contact in your picture gallery or whatever it's called on you device. When you edit that contact, there should be someplace.. perhaps even long press on the grayed out icon beside the name.. something similar anyway.. and then choose the picture you want to use. Save your contact changes. Should then have that picture associated with that contact. I hope you figure it out. I don't have your device or I could give a better answer. Welcome to AF. Enjoy

The problem wasn't with other people's contacts. It is with their own picture.

I haven't noticed if my wife's Optimus T has this issue or not, but my myTouch Slide with CM7 has the same problem, I can't figure out how to set my picture for it to show up in the messaging app... I can touch the grey box where the picture would be and it looks like it highlights when I touch it, but thats it. When I long press it doesn't do anything related to the picture at all either. Very strange.
