got a few things im not sure how to fix or what im doing wrong. first off my alarm clock does not go off in the mornings for work. i set a alarm for a few mins ahead of the actual time to see if it works and it goes off. but the next morning nothing still. also both my emails do not refresh themselves anymore. i have to go in and refresh to see if i got any mail. Another thing is when i change my notification ringtone for my text messages it does not change to what i set. i go back in and it is still set to what i put it at but when i get a text its not what i set... does anyone have any ideas on any of this. im sure im doing something wrong but its driving me crazy

thanks shawn

First and foremost, have you installed any new apps just prior to these problems?

For the alarm:

Is the alarm not going off at all or is it just not making sound?
Is the little box checked next to the alarm you want?
If it is just a sound issue, try adjusting the volume as Charlie81 suggested. It is easiest when your are picking an alarm sound and just hitting the volume key during the test playback.

For the email:

I would double check and make sure the data sync settings are correct. Menu > Data Synchronization and make sure that Gmail is checked. If it is, try unchecking it and rechecking and see what happens. I don't use anything but gmail (all funneled into one account) so unfortunately I can't help with that one.

For the text notification:

I am normally not big on third party apps to fix stock problems, but you may want to look at Tone Picker in the market and see if that can help with your notification problem.

My guess is that you have automatic task killer running. When the screen turns off all your apps are killed so your alarm won't work. When you turn the screen back on the apps like e-mail are not up to date because they just loaded back up and are not set up to sync for 15min and your screen probably turns back off within that 15min to just kill off the app again and start the cycle over.
At least that was my problem for a little while. If that is your case, just uninstall your app killing programs.

Yep, that would do it without a doubt.

Dont uninstall your app killer, just add clock and calender to the ignore list.

I use Taskiller. You can either kill everything in one button press or press each one individually. You can set up ignore lists and auto killing if you want, but I don't mind just hitting the button instead of having the auto killer run all the time.

If it actually is a problem with a task killer, why wouldn't he uninstall it? It seems silly to keep something on your phone that is causing that much of a problem.

ok i do have advanced task killer installed. if i uninstall it im sure it would fix my email and alarm clock problem. but if i dont and set it to ignor my clock and email how do i make the ignor list? and what other way is there to close the apps without it an app killer? Im sure the apps killer is the problem and i want to think everyone for there help. but i still dont know how come my notification ringtone wont change. the app killer should have nothing to do with my ringtone would it?

Last night I did some learning about task killers and the problem is that most of us are stuck in a MS Windows state of mind where the more memory that is free, the better the system will run. It is noted all over the place that task killers (in Android/Linux) don't help and in many places can make your system run slower and use more battery life. When you hit the back button in many apps, they exit completely but others that don't go into a hibernate type of status. If you kill it, then when you go back to the program has to reload completely. You spend more CPU cycles closing out and starting back the programs then if you left it alone. More CPU cycles means everything else runs slower and your battery dies quicker. When they system needs more memory, the OS will automatically kill the apps for you and probably in a better manor then the app killer program.

I read earlier today of a guy that puts his phone into airplane mode at night instead of turning it off because he saves more power on his phone that way because of how much energy is used in starting apps. It goes against conventional thinking but sometimes leaving something on and running is more efficient.

As for the ringer, I'm not sure but I would start out by uninstalling anything you really don't think you will use on a weekly basis. There are a lot of 3rd party apps that can and will mess with your settings so it is best to keep to the basics.

Try running for a week without the task killer and see what it does for you. I highly doubt you will be disappointed, unless you have a really messed up app on your phone.

For the ringtone, as said, you sometimes never know what an app will do to your phone. Take a look at what you have installed recently and see if removing anything helps.

Your SMS message app has it's own notification sound setting. Go to the message app and click the menu button, then settings, then go to notification sounds. On my phone it's completely different from my regular notification sound. As far as your other two questions, I think they were pretty well answered above.

Thank you for the info about the app killer, I guess I didn't realize that.

I uninstalled Task Panel today. I'm anxious to see what happens. I hope my phone runs the same without it. I have found that the Eris uses a lot of battery to power up. I use airplane mode a lot during the day (i'm a teacher so I can't really take calls). Airplane mode is much better than powering up and down all the time.

I'm hoping I won't need a task killer. I like to restart my phone every three days or so anyway.

i deleted the album of knotguide. what i think it was is i had the app knotguide. i uninstalled it because i dont use it but it had images in it. i think somehow they all got into my photos and when i unistalled it they went gray. that would be my guess.

I never turn off my phone, only plug it in and let it charge up while sleeping. This is what I've done with other phones, wondering if I should be doing something differently???

Nothing differently needs to be done unless it's messing up. I'm guessing that when updates/upgrades come along you do reboot the device.

How's your battery life been?

Well, when I install the update the phone reboots itself automatically. I just let it do its thing. I don't follow with a battery pull or anything. Battery life has been so so. Last all day now that I'm not using it constantly, but could be better. Used to go for days with my Dare...

I like the idea of just leaving the device on.. I guess I don't because I don't want to be bothered with it at times, so I turn it off and charge it, especially late at night.

My old Samsung Instinct came with two batteries; I got spoiled by that, just switching them out. Maybe I'll get a spare for this Eris.
