portability of 10" tablet: do you take it with you everywhere?

I currently have an archos 70 tablet that I take everywhere with me, use on breaks at work etc.... So the question is do you find it is too much to lug around a 10" tablet all the time? I am really wanting to get a honeycomb tablet but am really sold on how easy the 7" form factor is to carry around with me. I don't want something that I end up leaving at home.

I went from an Archos 7o (been an archos owner for a long time) and it was a great device, very portable although even that I wouldn't carry around EVERYWHERE with me. I don't know what your situation i for use of a tablet. I was really concerned about the 10in size though, that's quite a big difference. Since getting a TF though I haven't looked back. I mainly got the Archos 7o for the media of watching videos at work and occasionally browsing the net. It was an ok device that generally did the job. Getting the TF though everything was better, screen size, resolution, processor, battery life, and keyboard (bugs though...). Even the gloss screen hasn't detered me and I HATE gloss screens.

This is definitely not a device I'd take around everywhere I went, but one things for sure if I was in a situation where I did I wouldn't have to worry about batt life. That's a big plus in my book. I'd think of this as more of a netbook than a small tablet if you get the keyboard dock too. With that said this is a MUCH BETTER netbook if thought that way. It has the small compact design, but without the crappy aspects of a PC via notably the bottom getting hot and waiting for the stupid Windo$e to load. You still get PC like functionality because the dock has usb ports and a SD card reader.

I've not picked up my Thinkpad x200t since getting this thing, that's how all around good it is. Definitely an upgrade I don't regret at all.

It really depends what you want to do with it. I'd say yeah a 7o is portable, but while in use it really does get cramped on that screen.

I purchased my TF to use at home or on brief trips. My needs are well covered by three devices. I have a Droid Incredible for mobile use. The TF is primarily for flexible home use while I have a powerful desktop for big projects, storage and 3D gaming. These three devices work great as a team. JustinL42, I really think it depends on your use. If a tablet is going to be your mobile device, I think a 4G, 7 inch tablet might be ideal. It is true with the TF that you would never need to worry about battery life. It is a flexible device. Good luck with your decision.

I take mine to work, and to my girlfriends, and anywhere that I feel safe with it, but not everywhere, not because of its size or because it isnt portable, but because it has a glass screen and it cost me

I take mine to work and on trips. It has replaced my laptop for everything but 3D gaming. I wouldn't use the TF as my only mobile device as it is too large to carry around without a case. It doe seem like it could be easily damaged if treated harshly.

I take mine (with its dock) pretty much everywhere my daily bag goes with me. It isn't even close to the heaviest thing in there so I'm not really worried about the weight. To me, the difference between carrying and/or holding a 7" vs 10" isn't much. Either are far bigger than my phone but far smaller than my 17" laptop.

The TF with dock can pretty much do most of what I need my laptop to do except my photo editing. Part of that is horsepower but the other part of that is it just nice to have all that space to work with. So if I'm just out for the day, I take the TF and dock. For a trip where photography is the point, the laptop is definitely going but I'd probably still take the TF just for quickly popping on and off the net wherever I stop for a rest during the day.

I carry mine all day, I find it more convenient for answering emails than my Evo. I bought a small messenger bag to carry it along with my pad ( paper one, still have to do some things old school), pens and charger.

Not everywhere but anywhere I do want advanced connectivity or media consumption but dont need the big laptop, which is any place I am not having to do work. Although, it goes along (sans keyboard) when I am going to do work because I can do some things like sign digital documents, which I cant do legibly using a mouse.

The transformer with the dock will be my go-to laptop when traveling for pleasure. It gets stupid long battery life so we can watch movies all the way to Hawaii or Europe without having to worry if the power ports in our seats are working or not.

Ya know.. as I said, I really liked the portability/size of the 7o but when it comes down to productivity and being able to see the screen or a full web page it was a figgin pain, then there was trying to type and barely having enough area to see what I was typing. I'm glad I switched to the TF, it really is more useful all over. I don't think you'll get any where close to the tf on any other tablet (without buying accessories) and at that point you might as well get a netbook or 10-12in laptop which still won't get you the batt. life or the the instant on OS. I have not use the chrome book, but it's not my cup of tea.

If I find a neoprene case with a small pocket and strap then I'd be carrying this thing everywhere. I could try to modify my homemade case to have these features too.

I'm using the Galaxy Tab 7" , and really like it's form factor for eBooks (it feels the size and weight of a paperback) & portability.

I really do look the like (& price!) of the Transformer, and as now most of my work is handled through the cloud & Google Docs, think the Transformer could be the device to make me ditch laptops for good.

However, I think I'll hang on to my Samsung Tab as my main mobility device - it's got the 3G option and makes a good size GPS unit for the car, where I suspect the 10" form factor devices will be too big.

Mine goes with me in the car everywhere. I usually only take it out when I'm stopping somewhere for awhile. It's what I call portable, but not mobile like my DroidX. Afterall, i need a reason to justify keeping a smartphone lol, because i have stopped using the droid for a lot of things.

I take it when I know I will be somewhere I would use it. I obviously leave it at home when I go shopping. Visiting family or the like I will take it. It fits in my purse so no issues there.

I primarily use my TF at home. However, I would not go on a trip without taking my TF. I just got back from Chicago and I loved having the TF with me. Just for darting around, however, I am not likely to carry the TF. If I need the web while I'm out, I will just use my DInc. I don't really feel like paying for tethering (or rooting to get free tethering) and I am really wary of open wi-fi spots these days, so that limits the portability of the TF for me. If I need to read on-the-go, I have the Nook Color which I don't mind throwing into my briefcase.

I agree with an earlier poster who said the devices work as a team. My DInc is great for24/7 web access (and dynamite for phone calls ). I used to read e-books on my DInc or my Ipod Touch, but now I use my Nook for that. The TF is great for content consumption and casual content creation when I know I am going to be stationary and have access to a trusted wi-fi network. My 16 inch laptop is for big projects like photo-editing or other tasks where creation of a record is important to me, like filing income taxes, etc.

Ha! I carry what probably looks like a man bag but that's ok with me as it doesn't look like it holds what it really holds. Like I said, my TF is far from the heaviest thing in the bag.

What "laptop" replacement software are you running besides a web browser? Polaris Office not real stable for me. Luckily our company is a Google Enterprise customer so I can do my presentations via Google Docs provided I have wifi in the hotel for my next company meeting otherwise out comes my laptop with powerpoint.
