I've owned literally over 25+ gadget cel phones in my life.

Had all 3 iPhones, 2G, 3G, 3Gs.

Had the Droid,

Now own the Nexus one.

It's a must buy if you're that person who is "on the fence" thinking about it.

Don't trust the bad press, and negative articles, this is one of the best phones i've ever had.

no i'm not an iPhone hater, just a gadget lover.

I hear you bro!

It's going to take more people getting a Nexus in their hands to realize what a truly fantastic device it is.

I was fully prepared to send it back if I didn't like it. I knew I was keeping it in less than an hour!:D

It's one of those things in life you buy and actually feel like you got more than your money's worth. Congrats on the discovery!

i 100% agree!! i am not a "super techie" just a normal guy and i
love this phone so much. i started with the g1, it was really good,
but it was not the "dream phone" i wanted. then i saw the htc hero,
and i was so taken with it, but i am a loyal t-mobile customer, so
i just waited. then, when i saw the nexus one i fell in love. so far
my experience has been incredible.
google voice nav - awesome
google translate - awesome
dolphin browser - awesome
phone speed - awesome
overall feel and quality - awesome
screen - beyond awesome
voice to text - awesome
i could go on and on, anyway i am really happy!!!:)

Don't get me wrong, I love the phone and I'm going to stick with it but:

Exchange intergration - terrible
wifi connectivity and consistancy - terrible
3G network grabbing - terrible
screen calibration - terrible

The hardware itself is amazing, best I've ever seen, but the software needs work or explanation.

Great post! I have a Droid but the Verizon reception is bad in my area, so I may not keep it. Considering the N1...
How do the pics and vids compare?
Some of my Droid photos are amazing, some are crap... same with the video quality.

exchange integration for EMAIL is not terrible... it's only terrible for CALENDAR intergration... let's be clear... I get INSTANT notification and perfect syncing with my work Exchange/Outlook mail.... excellent for email, n/a for calendar

Wifi - my experience is that it's a bit slow to connect, but remains solid once connected... very good
3G - in my area - solid 3G signal and retention... excellent
screen calibration - good, needs improvement (intermittent problem)

I agree with the OP. I had an iPhone 3G and loved it for months. I just got a little bit bored with what it could do and the games stopped being enough (I can play them on my iPod Touch anyway). This lead me to the Hero and then the N1. I had a G1 before the 3G but that went back because T-Mobile are equally shite in the UK...

The N1 is not perfect but for someone who wants to be a little different and hop onto the Android experience, now is the time.

The Nexus one takes better pics then the droid hands down. I don't know why? HTC hardware i guess.. but it just does.

As far as video goes, both the nexus one and droid pretty much shoot the same video quality. I mean it's literally difficult to tell the difference.

the iPhone still ranks first in video recording for a cel phone IMO.

Here's a video i shot with my iPhone 3Gs...

Do me a favor if you can.

Send yourself a e-mail from your computer to yourself (using your exchange account). Obviously, you'll get it in your Outlook as well as your phone notifying you that you have received an e-mail. OK, now mark that e-mail as read in your outlook, but leave your phone alone. Does your phone ever integrate with your inbox and mark that message as read? Do the new mail notifications ever stop unless you clear them yourself?

Thanks for the response... On the roller coaster, how did you hold onto the phone? I would have dropped it, sh*t my pants, and threw up.

In that order.

Assuming Griffon is like Sheikra (being that I am scared of heights its the one coaster I loath to ride) at BG Tampa the most stress on your body is the 2 drops. Its easy from there on. Just hold tight, close to you chest which he seems to be doing, and make sure the case on it has a good wrist strap and no problem.

same problem I keep running into is T-mobile.

I see great coverage in my city and its been confirmed that there is great 3g in my area. But I see the map very scarce in other areas. Going on a ski trip in a month... only see 2g. On my drive to TN from OH, I see tons of completely empty spots. What happens to my GPS navigation then?

Pro Skills my man... Pro Skills.... :D

No seriously, i held onto it REALLY REALLY freaking hard, at the same time trying to take into account that i wanted my arm to move with the coaster, so the actual video would not be shakey or messed up.. and also at the same time, trying to cover my arm from the security cameras.. they take recording video very seriously on those rides and ive seen them literally stop the rides before if they see you with a camera.

Hi

Just joined to answer your question. I dont use the generic exchange app that came with the Nexus One I have downloaded the Touchdown app from the android market.

Its really really good, believe me. It has all the functions of my desktop email and is very quick and syncing your accounts. I think it cost me $19.99 but it really is a small price to pay for what you get.

I tried what you said and yes it works both ways. The emails sync on your phone and desktop and they will be marked as read...the delay was roughly 6-10 minutes.

FYI the guy who developed Touchdown is very quick for all support queries and he has helped me a great deal. I have ended up downloading his Beta app which isnt in the market yet and it is such an improvement on the previous app. Im not rubbishing the current version by any means but the Beta app has more options to properly setup your email the best way possible.

Hope this helps

thanks for helping out.

I've tried Touchdown, and you're right, it will sync both ways. That's how it should be and I can't understand why the native app won't do this. Even with Touchdown, 6-10 minutes is too much. When using exchange on the iphone, the mailboxes would sync, both ways, within 10 seconds. What is this delay all about?

Why can't we access global address books? The Droid can, the iphone, blackberries can. Why can't we?

Why can't we have signatures, all other devices have this. Our Gmail app can do it. Why can't we?

Why can't we inline forward e-mails instead of the message being attached as a .eml file? All other devices inline forward. Why can't we?

On the Touchdown I am using it can:

Access global address books
Create a signature
Forward emails normally

Or are you on about the generic Nexus app?

I will email the developer and ask him why it takes the time it does to sync the accounts but for me that length of time isnt an issue because im either on my phone emails or sat with my laptop with Outlook open. If I was ever reading my mail outside of the office by the time I get to my laptop the mail will have been marked.

Yea, touchdown is a partial solution for most issues. It's a solid app, I just don't see why we have to pay extra for a more proper e-mail support when no one else does.

Agreed. We shouldnt have to buy third party apps to be able to get functionality but for me the only reason I bought Touchdown is because my firm seemed to have such a high security request on exchange that the nexus couldn't support it.

Touchdown however requires a pin code etc to sync and so the sync worked. I don't know if this is the case with others?

I could get upset over the nexus not allowing the sync out of the box but as long as I have the phone I love and there is an app which frees it up for personal AND business, I'm very happy.

I did this...

1) yes, the message got marked as read on my phone after marking as read on the computer

2) however, no, the notification did not stop... so that's a small issue... but rather that (message read, notification still active) than the opposite (new message, no notification)

hey, it's not perfect... but it's still pretty good

EDIT: I did another test, this time just waited a bit longer, and the notification does INDEED go away!

Strange, my notifications don't go away, no matter how long i wait. I just hope they fix what they can.

i like the phone, but the novelty has worn off. now it bugs me that the touch buttons aren't very responsive and they trackball isn't either. the battery life is enough to get me through the day.

htc bravo looks like it would resolve the touch and trackball issues. i wish that one was out RIGHT NOW. because i would buy that one over the n1.

now someone just needs to make a good slide-out keyboard with an edge-to-edge screen, a better media player, and the same slimness as the n1 and THAT'S MY PHONE.

but for now, this one's not too bad :)
