You posters who are using the GPS Status app successfully: are you in 4G areas?

I'm in a strong 4G market and none of the various GPS apps have improved my Tbolt's horrendous GPS lock time. And my wife's Incredible, side by side with my Tbolt, continues to lock in seconds without fail.

I have also checked the contacts between the GPS antenna and the case and they are fine -- the shiny spots are obvious.

No problems with the GPS in 4G. I use it on my wife's TB when we're out & it does make it usable.

FWIW, I think I read that all GPS status actually does is pull fresh DNS info for the time servers. There's a lot of chatter in the root crowd about editing the NTP pool to use a smaller pool of servers. I messed with this and it didn't stop the GPS delay. I'm waiting for the MR2 meets Ginger dust to settle to figure out what I'm going to do to get faster GPS fixes.

I am honestly surprised that nobody has pointed this out yet. Your ThunderBolt and Verizon's LTE have no effect on GPS.

This is Lightsquared's satellite based LTE not LTE. Lightsquared's 40,000 base stations communicate to their satellite(s) on the same frequency as GPS .. it has nothing to do with LTE. The base stations do NOT use LTE to communicate with the satellite, they use their own scheme, which impinges on GPS. This issue has nothing to do with LTE, if they were providing 3G service they would have the same issue. It's the base station to satellite link (NOT cell phone to base station, which is LTE) that steps on GPS toes. Lightsquared is trying to use satellites. All the other carriers are implementing LTE with ground stations and hardlines. It's the satellite signals their worried about, not the LTE itself.

What program do you have and what did you do with it to make that happen?

I have something called GPS Status and Toolbox from EclipSim. It's got something that let's you download data from the net that is supposed to help the GPS be quicker, but it hasn't done anything for me.

Is this the program you're using or did I get the wrong thing?

Im right in the middle of a 4g area.. I use the newest mr2 radio and get locks in 2 seconds Max.. No GPS apps needed.

I dialed ##clrgpsx# and hit send and then restarted the phone. My thunderbolt got a much faster lock without any applications. I don't know what it does, but it's worth a try. It worked for me.

I've a stock thunderbolt with the update. I'm not sure if this will work on other roms.

Only problem is that you shouldn't have to do this with a $250 (upgrade), $569 (retail) phone. I'm just saying...

Wall Street Journal had an article about it in there, and they do mention that LightSquared believes it can adjust its network so that it won't interfere with GPS systems. I guess they have another series of tests planned over the next week. So, there is hope, I guess, though no expected ETA from what I saw so far.

Man the most annoying thing about the problems with the Thunderbolt is that solutions don't work consistently. We all have the same phone and are trying to deal with the same issue. So, why should one solution work for you guys but not for me. I tried dialing the clrgps and I've got the GPS Status app and my GPS still takes forever to lock.
