My native music player has started turning itself on at different times. I will get a triangle in my notification bar, open it and the music player is running and listed as ongoing. There is no stop button, only pause, and apparently backing out of the app does not turn it off. Should I look into a task killer for this?

Yes, as well as all music on the phone. It appears that when the bluetooth connection is made it will randomly decide on it's own that the MP3 player should be running. When this happens the phone lags, sometimes bad. Don't know why it only does it sometimes, but it is driving me up the wall because I am on my phone in my truck a lot!

I have no bluetooth devices to toy with at the moment but have you tried looking under the bluetooth settings to see if there are any options that could be the root of this issue. Have you tried to delete the pairing and creating a new one? Is there any possible settings on your radio that could be the root of this...maybe autoconnect/autoplay setting?

There is no autoplay function on the headunit and I see nothing under the bluetooth settings on the phone. I am trying the settings on the media player as well, but haven't found anything there either.

I have the same exact problem on my nexus one. What happens is once you plug in earphones (or my auxiliary audio line in my car), your phone detects that a device is plugged in and automatically opens up the Music App and starts playing.

I have poked around in the Music App menu, but have not found anything that can disable this, and you can't just uninstall the default music app.

I have a bluetooth stereo headset..
There are controls on the headset to control sound (up, down, and mute)...
One of the controls is a mute button.
On my headset, that button can also start and stop music!

My guess is that....
How how you are accidentally hitting the mute button.

:D

I am not, the bluetooth screen on my stereo is not even up when it happens.

I have figured out it is some type of auto start feature in the media player, it comes on intermittently because the A2DP connection does not register every time, but the phone does which is what is important to me.

Guess it is time to root and dump the Sprint Music Player app.
