In this case yes, somebody has provided an apk of the MIUI camera to install as a normal app. However, I don't believe just taking the .apk from one rom would work, no doubt it's more complicated than that.

I'm gonna give CM7 a shot tonight, do you have a link please as my google skills are evidently not up to scratch.

Also, the CM7 zip file was about 85MB, the LeeDroid zip was about 280MB. Does Sense add that much gumph? I presume CM7 doesn't come with all the preinstalled apps such as youtube etc.

Think when I installed CM7 it gave me the option to include quite a few of the google apps... as long as you're getting the ZIP from the "right" place, then I think it should be ok! :)

Yeah sense does take up a load of space, but you're right that cyanogen doesn't come with the Google apps package.

You can get both the stables and nightlies here: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=ace

Or you can download them using rom manager. That's how I do it, and it also downloads the gapps package along with it.

Thank you both Xyro and D-U-R-X.

I actually meant the link to the Miui camera apk, apologies.

I got the zip directly from here, so it should be ok.

Ah, ok gotcha. Well I can't find the post on XDA where I grabbed it (it was in a kernel thread), but this is the .apk I'm using on cm7:

Hi guys,

I'm going to take the plunge this weekend and root/ROM my DHD. Played around with different ROMs when I had my Hero and I've been reading up so I'm feeling fairly confident (so expect a panicked comment soon when something goes wrong!) but the only thing I'm still undecided on is which ROM to go for first. I was swaying towards ARHD but I keep seeing people recommending Leedroid. I'm not going for CM7 as I'd prefer sense. Which do you think would be best for a first try?

I think I'll give ARHD a shot next.

LeeDroid was good, it's pretty much what you have on your handset already, but with a few nice tweaks. What's good is the guy never sleeps and is pretty good at fixing bugs etc/listening to feedback etc so it's updated on a regular basis.

Incidentally, using CM7, are folks battery stats a little messed up?

Just over 25 hours into a charge Mobile Standby & Phone Idle are taking 34% & 31% respectively. WiFi is 23%, Android System is 7%. Despite the screen being on for 2 and a half hours, it's only taken about 5% of the battery? I've also made a few voice calls too and they're not being shown.

I've no issue with battery life, I could easily get 2 days out of it, just weird from going to having the display being the top battery hog as being the lowest.

Well, I managed to downgrade, root, radio s-off and eng s-off. Took me longer than I wanted to spend since it took me a stupid amount of time to realise that the adb driver wasn't properly installed, and then even longer trying to get hold of HTC sync since the HTC website wouldn't let me download it for some obscure reason. Still not quite decided which ROM to go for yet, but I think I'll wait til tomorrow since if anything else doesn't go as planned tonight I'll most likely throw some expensive piece of electronics through the window. I'm off to bed in an angry protest instead!

In case no ones noticed LeeDroid released version 3.1.5 last night. Might give it a go if I have time tonight, if not it will wait til tommorrow

I did notice that. Was the last update just the kernel? Is this a full one?

Probably best ;). All the hardwork is done now anyway!

I think so, but had a quick look this morning he's tweeked the latest kernel as well, soooo confused. Think I'll stick with 3.1.4 for a day or so to see what happens:D

Another update this morning

On impulse, I stuck 3.1.6 on when I saw he'd updated. CM7 was nice, but I was getting far too many force closes and there were other little niggles here and there that got to me.

So far I'm liking what he's done again. I'm not sure if the fancy animations are an addition to 3.1.6 or if they were there in 3.1.5, but they are a nice touch.

There are apparently issues with Flash and the Sense 3.0 Weather app, but in an hour or so of messing about, I've not noticed many problems. Will report back if I see other wise.

All done! I went for leedroid in the end, there had to be a reason so many people recommend it. Quite impressed so far, now to spend the rest of the day playing around on it!

Which version? 3.1.5?

Quick question regarding Titanium back.

I've read in several posts that it's best to back up only user data and not system data. Do I have to get the paid version of TB or can it be done in the free version. And how?

That's correct, yeah.

If you go to the backups tab, hit menu, batch and then pick 'Backup User Apps', that will do as you intended.

Then on your new rom, pick restore missing apps with data. That will restore only backed up user apps.

I don't think you need tthe paid version, although the paid one does allow you to skip hitting 'ok' for every reinstall (as well as other things) which is a big help. Its a very worthy purchase IMO.

MyBackup Root (free) probably beats the free version of TB though, if don't want to pay.

Yeah 3.1.5. I'm actually abit disappointed, I love the rom itself, my phone seems so much quicker, but my battery life seems worse. Went to an early gig this afternoon, charged to 70% before I left the house at 5, just got home and I'm on 8%. That's 4 hours with hardly any use (a 30 second phone call, checking time every so often and a facebook wall post arranging a lift home). That's with juice defender active as well. I was in a bar underground so probably spent a long time without signal, but I often spend 6+ hours in there with less battery used than that. Is this usual cos I was expecting it to be better than stock not worse?

Also, how often do you update your roms? And how much will I lose if I update to 3.1.6? I spent ages (maybe 30+ minutes) setting up my home screens etc and don't want to lose it all.

I installed LeeDroid just over a fortnight ago and I've flashed most of the updates since then, missing 3.1.5 as I had CM7 installed.

After installing a new ROM, I always wipe the battery stats via clockwork, you could try doing that.

To do it properly, download an app called current widget, place the widget on your home screen, then charge until it reads 0mAh. Boot into clockwork, go to Advanced, then wipe battery stats. Then on the next charge, let your phone run down to 0% before charging again.

See if that makes a difference.
