I think we can all agree that we need two features:
- 4G
- Unlocked bootloader (or one that's not encrypted so we can unlock it ourselves, a la ThunderBolt)

Also, I think most of us can say that the GS2 (iff it has 4G) is better than the Bionic. Its only downfall is the lack of the notification LED.

I'm really hoping Verizon/Samsung decide to fatten up the GS2 a little more and stick in the LTE radio.

^For me, 4G is a more of a need vs an unencrypted bootloader. Its part of me getting tired of the ROM scene when the Droid 1 officially got Froyo and me getting the Droid X1.

As of right now, an unencrypted bootloader is at the bottom of the list for any want or need for me. I'll treat the bootloader like I did when I first got the Droid 1: an added bonus, a surprise. It wasnt a need when I got the Droid 1, and even tho I like custom ROMs now it still isnt a need.

And on the topic of bootloaders, the Photon is gonna be locked tight as of right now. Maybe Moto will feel pressured by what HTC is doing. One can only hope...

I would choose Bionic but one thing really stands in the way... pentile screen. I really despised it on the Incredible and Fascinate since the text looked all pixelated. Anyone know if that's still an issue with Bionic? I'm so used to the retina display that going back to a pentile screen might be too much of an eyesore.

Yeah qHD screen sucks. Sure the resolution is better, but it really isn't because of the way its doing

Super AMOLED + all the way...

SGSII please come soon LTE :)

The slimness of the SG2 is what sold me over. Yea 4g is nice and all but thats why I have vzw fiberoptic cable service at home. I was really leaning towards the TB when it came out but then the battery life and size of it just threw me off. Slim phones are more sexy to the average consumer.

Anybody hear of any other updates for SG2 releasing in July?

For me, if the so-far rumored specs hold true it will come down to release date and if the SGSII has LTE. If they release near the same time and both have LTE, I will without a doubt get the SGSII.

However, I am not waiting much past August for either devices.

I noticed in your profile that you're a CM7 user. Would you buy the Bionic even if it has an encrypted bootloader?

You know, I have asked myself that question a few times. I guess I really don't know or understand the life of a person w/o having to deal with a lock/encrypted bootloader. You know, I hear arguments on both sides of the fence, some saying it really doesn't hinder their ability while others argue against anything with a locked bootloader.

So, I wasn't going to let that rule out a device, but given the choice, I will not go with the Moto, but if A)its the only guy in town when I am ready to purchase or B) its performance outshines the competition I will most likely go with it. I hear the term "Superphone" thrown around a lot lately. This term is what I am wanting in my next phone. Sure, Verizon has some decent phones out right now (Revo, Thunderbolt, DX2, Charge) but none of them would qualify to me as being a "Superphone". Seems as though the other three big US carriers all have at least one "Superphone" whereas, Big Red doesn't come close.

I am just ready to buy. I have been eligible since late February. I picked up a Charge, but that wasn't the answer and soon returned it. To be honost, I really hope Verizon will get an HTC Sensation variant. I currently hold an Incredible and this is the third HTC device I have owned (Touch, Touch Pro) and have loved everyone of them. The Dev support for HTC devices is second to none.

I hear ya. Not sure I am buying whichever comes first, but I am not going to wait long on the other to come out. The more I read about the dx2 the less I am feeling about the Bionic. Nonetheless I hope Big Red gets the ball moving soon. Bring on LG, HTC, Moto and Samsung. Let them all bring their best and let the consumers pick. Tired of Big Red controlling everything and acting like Apple.

DX2 - locked bootloader, 3G, 512MB RAM
Bionic - possibility of unlocked bootloader, 4G, 1GB RAM

As a Fascinate owner, I'll say that I would never buy another Samsung phone due to their lackadaisical support on the software side.

Just curious... Did you root your Fascinate? Maybe I am naive but as a Droid Incredible owner, after the first month or so of ownership, HTC had nothing to do with my software. If you root and apply community developed Roms doesn't that take the OEM out of the equation?

^I think you mean if you wanna run a custom ROM with a custom kernel, then current Moto phones might fail. I say might fail cuz seeing the news for the Atrix and Droid X1, custom kernels are on the way. Seeing the Mototola Droid X type phone on Virgin Mobile that has stock Android, there's a chance it wont be locked down tight.

Every Moto phone has root. Every Moto phone cant have a custom kernel. Since there are some great root apps, getting a Moto phone and rooting is still an option. Getting a Moto phone and installing the ROMs that available for it that cant have a custom kernel is still an option.
