Sure. Turn it off. Go to menu>settings>location and security>setup screen lock and select none. If a screen lock is currently active you will need to enter the passcode or pattern.
There is an apparently called "no lock" on market. Its free. Didn't work for me, by that was only because have a Samsung continuum. It has a "ticker" that wouldn't unlock. But it should work on yours.
It seems the only way to do this is to replace the email.apk with one that has been hacked to remove this requirement. As of Froyo, Google has locked down this API it seems.
