Root [ROM ]--CHARITY--Smoked Glass Themed Version 12 !! Gingerbread 2.3.4

Applied the update... some notes:

- Physical keyboard still has no backlight (how do I fix this?)
- 3g drops for me now (didn't have this problem on either 12 or 12.1) reboot fixes the problem.

Overall, It does run a lot smoother though. About as nice as charity 11 ran on my phone.

I have installed the ROM on multiple droids i own and I have not been able to reproduce the problem with the keyboard lights; try re-installing the ROM, but before you do:

From the main menu in CWR:
Wipe data/cache
wipe cache

From the mount/partitions menu:
wipe boot
wipe system
wipe data
wipe cache

from the advanced menu:
wipe davlik cache
wipe battery stats

then install; or wait a few hours I am going to release an update with a few more bugfixes, 180 degree rotation, and the volume keys will match the direction of the screen - like in youtube if you are holding in landscape you are pressing volume up to the left and the screen shows it going to the right - i changed that

Download link: CHARITY ROM 12.3

Version 12.3 Changelog from 12.1

added battery sound switch
fixed radio crash in settings
new version of filemanager
new version of gallery3d (cyan)
bluetooth fix - sort of
add wifi adhoc support
new date/time picker
fix phone crash
improve usb mass storage
hardcore optimization

Loading 12.3 is effectively a new ROM , correct? Meaning it'll wipe my current 12.2 charity rom, rather than an update or hotfix?

I have to say, I've tried five different ROMs in the past two weeks and Charity 12.1 is hands down the most stable and snappy ROM I've used.
It's not perfect, I've had force closes, reboots, and hangs... but the same thing happened on the Verizon ROM.

Just to note:
I've had the issue with the keyboard light not coming on also. I've wiped all caches 2 to 3 times... tried Charity 12, then four others, then Charity 12, and Charity 12.1 wiping after each... dump. Not that I care, I never use the damn thing... but just as an FYI.

and some questions:
Does the new ROM have the tweaks outlined in the links below?
[Script] V6 SuperCharger !! HTK & BulletProof Launchers! FIX MEMORY FOR ALL ANDROIDS!
[Script][CWM] Increase Read Cache for better SD Card access

I notice you have the CPU set to 700MHz. Do you recommend using SetCPU or any kind of overclocking software, or is the happy medium?

...and some issues:
This is from a 3x wipe and formatted SD card.

1. Sometimes when the phone is answered the mic longer works. Speaker phone screen button and Volume rocker is unresponsive... may have to force close the phone app to break the connection.

2. Music app causes a gap or skip within the first 30 seconds of every song. Never occurred before with same files and works fine in MortPlayer.

3. Would love to see the camera button work as a play/pause button in the lock screen.

The last is not an issue but a request... I had to think hard about it. I looked over the feature list and I've been able to successfully do everything on the list. Wifi tethering, wifi hotspot, HBO Go... had to change my build.prop to trick the app into letting the Droid 1 to work and I couldn't directly download it... but it works... very well. It's not bloated, but still gives all the bells and whistles without sacrificing stability. The addition of Smart Shortcuts to LaunchPro's dock swipe feature and SwitchPro Widget to round out the native Power Control, and you have an efficient and flexible UI.

Just Love It!

1: 12.3 update fixed that
2: Interesting, I will look into it; I can send you the stock/cyan app to try if you PM me. I use the music app on phone everyday (droid=my mp3 player) and i have never had that problem - I suspect the problem you are experiencing has to do with one of the two scripts you applied to the phone. I engineered the ROM so that add-ons as such are not necessary, SD speed is already increased by other means and IMHO memory management in stock gingerbread is awesome - I never have redraws/slow apps using my ROM or most other GB roms
3: It's actually included in the ROM but i disabled it b/c when you press the camera button and screen is on it pauses/plays music and launches camera app simultaneously; it is not a flawless design so i disabled it until either myself/cyan fixes it. displays same behavior with cyan's rom on my phone

as for wifi, wired tether works like a charm - haven't really tried wireless tether b/c I've never had luck with it on any ROM on my phone

as for setcpu, that's up to you; i tested battery life without it on my friend's old phone that does not have a data connection to verizon. After 5 full days on (with very very minimal use) the battery was at 50% I don't think setcpu is necessary. i thought about including a script in the rom that would auto set kernel to highest freq available, but i chose to leave it as is in hopes of better battery life

I had the same keyboard problem, googled and found a solution.

Have phone on, slide keyboard open, hit power button, hit power button again, unlock, and lights up.

I was really pestimistic, but it actually worked. Good luck

Dew912, I'm not complaining, at all... this is the best ROM that I have ever run on my Droid ever since I've owned it. However, like Techno and a few others, my keyboard no longer lights up anymore either. I've done everything that you have recommended, but still no lights on the keyboard. I just wanted to let you know, so that you know it's not just his phone that is not lighting up as well.

Though I still have not been able to replicate this problem on my 2 droids, i found a fix for it - that's why i didn't release the next version yet - expect it in the coming days

Dew,
Is there a way you could ad a script for the UA string in the browser like some other ROMs have (CM and SS). I prefer the browser in desktop mode most of the time and it would be really cool not to have to type about:debug and go to settings each time I open the browser. Otherwise, this ROM is working great on my phone and I'm enjoying using it!

Thanks for you work!

version 12.5
Charity125.zip

changelog:

added 180 rotation (will auto rotate to left and right)
volume control matches direction of the screen
keyboard lights fix
added user agent option to browser
reverted to gtalk from gingerbread release
wifi improvements

Btw, I did what you recommended and it worked... for like a split second :p

Installing this now and will let you know. Thanks, Dew!

Also, do I need to do a complete wipe - specifically the one you outlined earlier?

He could just use a toggle option somewhere so it only loads if you toggle it on and restart your phone or something.

Now that all the known bugs are patched I will be installing this today or tomorrow. Finally ready to hop onto Gingerbread from version 11.

Thanks again for your work on now the 12th version of your rom. The past versions have run great and something I am always showing off to my friends. I am sure that your latest version will be even better :D
