Looking for a Hero CDMA ROM

Hi, I'm currently rooted and using CM7, I enjoy it but even after following every guide for better battery life it is still terrible. What I'm looking for is a stable ROM with good battery life.
I use my phone for music, internet, messaging/email, Facebook and the Calendar. Besides those I don't use anything, I don't need fancy widgets or anything. A ROM that also removes unneeded software would be ideal.

It doesn't really matter to me what version of the HTC software it is based off of as long as I can use my phone for what I need and not have to worry about it dying half way through the day.

I am on CyanogenMod 7 with my Sprint HTC Hero as well. I get excellent battery life even with heavy usage.

Are you sure you are not running a background process that is eating the battery all of the time? Also, if you are in a lousy signal area but still on 3G, that will destroy your battery's life. If you want to try something a bit more vanilla, check out the AOSP Android 2.3.4 ROM. Although, my battery life with that ROM and CyanogenMod 7 has always been about the same.

Is there any specific modifications I can try for a better signal? I know you can install various radios, is there are specific one that is the best?

Flashing the latest one would probably be the best idea and you can find that here, I believe: [Radio][28th November 2010] 2.42.02.10.29 Sprint CDMA Hero - xda-developers .

You flash it just like a ROM. Boot into recovery and flash and done.

Ok thank you! Is there any specific kernel that is known for excellent battery life? Also would updating my profile and prl be worth while? I'm currently trying to unroot my phone just to get it wiped/updated before I throw another ROM on to it.

Glad you posted this LBP, I forgot to update the radio on the Hero they sent me a couple of days ago, it is still on the older radio 2.42.01.04.27, also I got the other phone flashed with the RUU, had to do it the old fashion way, I will explain when I talk to you next why I think the HBoot method did not work

It never hurts to update your Profile and PRL when you can. I usually just go with the kernel that comes along with ROM these days.

There are some good kernels, like Deca's kernels though. You can also try s0be's kernel which is based on Linux kernel version 2.6.35, which is the kernel Gingerbread uses.

No problem. I recently helped a friend flash a new radio on his smartphone.

I would be interested in your insight on the HBOOT Android 2.1 RUU thing. Thanks.

I somehow got myself back to 1.5 and now it won't update via the phone and when I try an RUU it says I need to use the correct one.

You could try this method [RUU] Official 2.31.651.7 in ZIP Format, Flashable from Fastboot - xda-developers

Just follow the directions on that page and you will have stock 2.1 unrooted. Then there is one htc software update to do and then just reroot.

Tried downloading it 3 times, every time it tells me "cannot decompress", now when I click the media fire download link the page just refreshes and no download starts, any other mirrors to that download that may work?

Try using a different Browser -
Xscope works AWESOME for downloads.

oh, no I'm talking about my Safari browser, not sure.. I downloaded a zip file earlier and it was fine.

You don't need to decompress the zip just rename the zip file to HERCIMG.ZIP

I'm not trying to, it is some OSX issue, I'm gonna have to re-install my apps on my Macbook. I got it to download/work on bootcamp though so I am now updated completely and rooted ! Thank you guys so so s oso so much

Nope Kernels are flashed the same way you would a ROM
