Coming up on my two weeks with the revolution Should keep or trade for Charge?

Almost two weeks ago on Fri. I received my Revolution. purchased from VZW on line.

Over all I like it, but there are a few IMO major issues that make me think of returning it and getting a Droid Charge.

The first and most troubling is that fact that even though I'm in a 4G area I have some apps that can not connect via 4g or even 3G. They need Wifi to connect even though they are supposed to use any connection.

I tried several of these on the TB and Charge in the VZW store. and they failed on the TB, but the Charge ran them no problem. I plan on trying them again tonight on the TB and Charge to see if the original results have changed.

Now my major issues with the Charge are the form factor/build and the hard buttons. as well as the UI (which can be changed).

I hate having to pay for 4G that only works on occasion.

Verizon doesn't care about any apps, they said if I have a 4G signal and can make and receive calls then there is nothing wrong. I have not called LG about this.

I have rooted the Revolution and understand that the Charge can be rooted as well.

I've heard that Gingerbread is coming to the LG sometime next month, but have no idea if that will fix the connectivity issues.

Given these facts does anyone have any suggestions/opinions about keeping the Revolution or Paying the $35 and getting a Charge?

I will be honest, my wife has got the charge the week after I got my Revolution. Its a pretty slick phone. But when my 2 weeks were up and I was considering changing to the Charge, I stayed with the Revo. I think this phone has a lot of potential. I have had some app issues, sure. But every phone does. I only turn on my 4G if I'm actually doing a video call or streaming a movie or something like that. Getting a second battery reduces the worry of batter life. And now that the phone has a working recovery module, I'm all happy.
I got the opportunity to play with both phones for a week side by side. In the end, I stuck with the REVO. IMO I wasn't worth the 35$ change to switch.

that's a difficult question to answer. which phone is right for you is really a matter of personal preference. plus, you weren't very specific on what your major issueS were. which apps aren't connecting via 4G? via 3G? i personally have not experienced any app connection issues with the apps i use. that said, if the charge is working where the rev isn't, and you consider this a major issue, i think you might have already answered your own question. as for paying for 4G, remember that 4G and 3G are currently the same price. the price of the phones may differ slightly, but usually you're getting a better overall phone, so the costs can be somewhat justified. also remember that the charge is a more expensive phone, so not only will you pay the restocking fee, but you'll need to pay the difference as well. good luck.

Those are the ones i can think of now. None of them are show stoppers. I checked on the Charge again last night and gods that screen is laggy. I don't think I'll switch. With the Root and Recovery done for the revolution and the potential of a couple of ROMS in teh next few weeks I think I'll keep the Revolution.

Hello All, I am new to android forums and droid in general. I currently have a BB Tour and totally HATE my phone. But I've been waiting for a good 4G phone to come out. I'm doing my research on which phone I like the most. In my research today on this forum I see that a lot of you keep referring to "rooting" your phones. What does it meant to "root" your phones? I kept searching in the forum search bar but was unable to come across any threads where this function and risk/benefit was explained. Any direction/explanation on this would be much appreciated. Also, does rooting your Revolution allow you to use Google search/maps instead of Bing? I prefer Google.

Also, do any of you use your Revolution with the Blackberry Bluetooth Stereo Adapter? I currently have one in my office at work and hooked up to my stereo at home and love the feature. The phone must have A2DP bluetooth function which the Revolution does according to my research. Being able to connecto to my bluetooth stereo adapters is a huge bonus for me. One of my coworkers has the Charge and loves it but she couldn't see my bluetooth adapter when I had her try to connect to it as a test. The Charge specs lists I've seen list Bluetooth 3.0 not A2DP so that's not surprising.

We root for control of our phones. There is little risk to rooting which allow you to use programs like titanium backup which can freeze apps from running like Bing and allow you make Google more dominant on the phone.

If you are really daring once you have root you can install clockwork recovery mod which allows you to interrupt the boot process in to a recovery menu from which you can back up your phone, or install a customized android with out Bing or LG Home which generally runs faster.

I myself am rooted running a hybrid version of the stock install. No Bing or Verizon bloatware, but I still have LG Home and the widgets that come with it.

Thanks Haxcid! I was at the Verizon store last night and spent a little time playing with each of the VZW 4G phones and was extremely dissapointed with the Revo's ability to search the web and play youtube videos. I had all three phones pull up the exact same video so that I could compare image quality/speed and the other two phones were done with the video before the Revo could even load it. Is this a weird fluke or are all of you having the same issue with your phones and that's why you root them? Thanks for your help!! I just want to make sure that the phone I get stuck with for the next two years is going to be a good one.

In the end I am not here to sell you a phone. Pick whatever you like. Go visit the 10 thousand other "should I get a revo/charge/tb" threads and look at all the input in them.

The phone works great for me, its rooted and rom'd and running smooth. Bing is completely removed as is the bloatware. The phone works for me.

I went back to the Droid Charge after a few issues I had with the LG Revo. There was a lot I did like about the LG Revo, but in the end Battery Life, Clarity in direct sunlight, lightness of the phone, great pictures, and raw speed online where what pushed me back to the Droid Charge, not looking back. The Great LG Revo Android Forum Members were hard to leave, but the Droid Charge Forum is just as spirited. Plus I can still put two cents in here just like they do over in the Charge forum. It really boils down to preference, as a Sailor, the features that mattered to me are what I went with.

I've rooted my phones before, but not yet with the LG Rev. Can you point me to the best instructions? The last time I looked, there was no recovery option. I dearly want to get rid of the bloatware, and I'm curious how it will affect battery life, not having a bunch of junk running that I don't want.

I'm also wondering if it helps with the lagginess I get sometimes. Has lag been a problem for you? I'm talking mostly about when I enter text.

I had the Charge for a week, but it had serious connectivity issues. Got another one from VZ, but it seemed to also have similar issues, but not as bad. I traded it after week 2 for the Rev - though they ripoff bastards charged me a $35 restocking fee. Totally unfair.

The Rev also seems to have connectiovity issues like my second Charge, so I'm wondering if its not the VZ network, which has always been very good to me. Suddenly, since 4G came out, it appears, at least, that connectivity has become a problem now and then. I wonder if anyone else has this issue?

But back to the Rev/Charge. For one, I hate, hated, hated, the interface colors and all that. As someone said, it's like a clown phone. Or for kids. Really, really, ugly and stupid. Then the brown and gold color scheme inside the apps. Man, just horrible. The screen was great, but I didn't think that much better than the Rev. the best thing was how light and thin it is.

Overall, I MUCH prefer the UI and colors of the Rev. The battery sucks, but I thought it sucked on the Charge just as much.

My main issue with the Rev right now is lagginess on entering text sometimes, and the intermittent data connection issues.
