Inspire - Bugs, Issues, Quirks, Other Complaints?

Besides the volume issues, I dont see Volume + in the market, my only real problem is the occasionally keyboard deadspots.

If you go to the url shown in Post#34 of this thread, there is a download site listed in that url - http://androidaudiohacks.com/home/volume-gingerbread/download - and it's a valid link. I myself have not seen it on the market, but other people have mentioned it being there, so I'd guess it really is.

First a little advice on the battery door problem. I let the AT&T rep open mine because I heard the first time is the hardest. He showed me the slot on the left side of the door and said put one thumb nail in the slot and twist a little until you can get your second thumb nail under the spot that opens up above the volume rocker. Then just pop it open with both thumbs. If you only try to open it from one side it is likely you will break it. After the first time, it is easy to open. I bought a second battery to alleviate the battery problem.

My only real issue is with apps. They all want to start when you boot up. Android/HTC needs some kind of start up manager like MSConfig on the PC. Most apps don't quit even if you kill them. They keep coming back like zombies.:D But, if there was more memory on the phone, it wouldn't be as big of a deal.

I like Sense, but I'm going to root (as soon as I get the nerve) to see what else is out there.

Oh, and honestly I would prefer a 5" screen!! This still seems small...until I use my wife's Captivate, which is just tiny to me now. My old iPhone 3G is just miserable.

Im sorry, but how do I install that on my phone? It downloads to the phone as an apk.

Nothing to be sorry about! You use a file manager like Astro or Root Explorer to install it. Open up the file manager and go to wherever the apk is located on your SD card, click on the apk and the file manager will ask you if you want to install it - click yes, install the apk. After it's done installing, the program will appear as an item in your app drawer. Just open it up and click on "Speaker Modifications" first, then on "Boost Speaker Volume", then on "Volume Level". I wouldn't go above the setting "Med/High" until you've tested it out - you don't want to damage your speakers. The other settings present are for fine tuning your sound.

Good luck! :)

The Inspire has plenty of RAM to handle it. Only a few devices out have more than the Inspire. And there is a way to manage startups - Autostarts. Works very well, but requires root. It's well worth the buck though.

Recently switched from BlackBerry Torch to Android. My 1st Android device was the Atrix, which I did not enjoy, and which had some SERIOUS bugs in its firmware.

The HTC Inspire is awesome, but not 100% bug free. So here is what I found so far:

1. Voice Dialer application ALWAYS crashes. I don't know if this is an HTC app or a stock Android app, but whenever I open it, the phone beeps, and then it gives me the message "Please Try Again. You Can Also Try Restarting Your Phone". Of course neither of these options makes the application work. Anyone else experience this? Any known solutions?

2. There is a weird quirk in the way contact names for some companies are displayed in the contact directory. I have several contacts in MS Outlook that don't include first or last names, because they are the information for an entire company. An example would be Targus, Inc.. I have my contacts list on the Inspire set to display by First Name. I have observed that for any company-only name that is a single word, the Inspire lists it as Inc COMPANY. So for example, Targus, Inc. is displayed as "Inc Targus" and shows up under "I" in my list instead of under "T" which is where any reasonable person would go looking for it. The WEIRD thing is that this DOES NOT happen for companies that have 2 or more words in their name. So for example MNS Engineers, Inc. a civil engineering firm I work with shows up correctly on the Android as "MNS Engineers Inc", but Huitt-Zollars, Inc. another civil engineering firm I do a bunch of work with shows up on the Android as "Inc Huitt-Zollars" because the software sees the hyphenated name as a single word. Yes you can work around this by deleting "Inc." from the names of single-word-name companies, but you shouldn't have to do that. This is a BUG and should be fixed.

That's it for now.

Most people rave about Sense. To me, it's a pro, not a con, for sure, especially if you're comparing to Atrix and motoblur. I, too, would like to know what people don't like about it!!

I LOVE HTC "Sense". Beautiful to look at, intuitive to use, etc. One of my favorite things about this phone. I briefly used a Motorola Atrix prior to switching to the inspire, and the experience on the Atrix was not nearly as good. Feels almost like a beta OS to me, whereas "sense" feels fully mature and exceptionally well designed. So good in fact that I might not even consider a non HTC handset for my future Inspire replacement as "Sense" is going to be a foundational requirement for me going forward.

Try using your PC browser and download it to your PC desktop. Then use a USB connection to your phone to manually move it to the root of your SD card - so it's sitting naked on the SD card, and not in a folder. THEN use the file manager to install it.

The sync issue can be resolved by setting apps that need to sync to manual refresh so they won't do it automatically. The same can be done for widgets so they only refresh when you tap the refresh tab/button.

As for the data cable maybe it got damaged or the connector Ben I don know. What is happening when you hook it up to the computer? Does the computer recognize the phone as being connected? And are you choosing hard disk as the usb connection type? Is usb debugging turned on/off?

I don't know if this is just my HTC inspire or not,
but My "Voice Dialer" automatically opens on it's own
when I plug headphones in, listen to music, or stream videos
and what it does is searches through my programs,
opens programs it shouldn't,
makes phone calls to the last dialed number,
and opens up my music player
and speed shuffles through songs till it decides to play one...
or if the music player was already open it skips through my songs...
I'm beginning to think it's possessed...
Could someone tell me if they've had this issue?
I want to make sure it's my phone screwing up
before I send it in for replacement
and if it's not I'll ditch the phone for something else...
(Really don't want to)

please if anyone knows anything e-mail me at

Mine's doing this too when I plug in to the aux in on my truck.

I listen maybe an hour a day plugged in like that and it skips songs and starts voice dialer, calls people maybe once or twice a week. It's never happened to me with headphones but I probably only ever plug in headphones to it once a week for less than an hour.

I started to think it was a problem with subsonic the music app I'm using but now I'm thinking something else...

I found out the headphone jack is more than just a 3 conductor headphone jack it's a 4 conductor headset jack. Supports headsets with music control buttons and a button you can open voice dialer with.

I'm guessing it's supposed to be backward compatible with 3 conductor headphone plugs but maybe something is off about it or off about the aux cable I'm using and there's random short circuiting going on there simulating button presses on a headset. I'm going to try another cable and if I still have problems I'm going to buy one of these:

seidioonline.com

I guess this will give the phone the 4 conductors it wants and I'll plug my aux cable into this adapter.

Anyone else have any other suggestions? I really enjoy having a phone for the 1st time with a real universal 3.5mm headphone jack that doesn't need an adapter like all my old phones did but here I am talking about buying an adapter.

I am having absolutely the same issues. However, I think it's my headphones. They're cheapies... I'm gonna go look for my good ones and see if this makes a difference. If not, I'll be spending eternity on the phone with AT&T

mine sucks. period. cant hear it ring, cant send videos, cant recieve videos from i phone. im not inspired at all.

Yeah the ringtones aren't that loud but a lot of people are using the zedge app for louder tones. As for sending videos what quality do you have it to record at? It really has to be mms quality to send thru text anything higher is probably going to have to be sent thru email. I have no problems with videos from iphone users but i have read other people do have issues. Have you tried another video player app? I think it's called rockplayer. It plays all kinds of video formats and i use it over my stock video app even though I can play videos fine thru it.

When I first turn on my HTC INSPIRE, i am prompted to force close certain apps/background programs, or skip force closing. Is this normal? Is there a way to avoid this? Should I force close?

Does this happen everytime you turn the phone on? What apps or programs are force closing? Is it the same ones all the time?

It's not normal for this to happen everytime you turn your phone on.
