Official Gingerbread (2.3) for the Shift is here! w00t!

i think it's suppose to have sense 2.1, but not 3.0. well, at least the leaked version of the rom had sense 2.1. 2.1 is a nice upgrade from the version the phone comes with.

Just did the upgrade and system showing sense 2.1. Anyone else upgrade yet? So far the UI seems to be more natural. What's your impressions?

Good thing you asked!

NEVER get an OTA on a rooted phone. It _will_ unroot your phone - and depending if your bootloader is unlocked, and how - can royally screw things up for you.

And - even if you don't get problems other than being unrooted - no guarantees you'll be able to re-root now - because who is to say the update didn't break the existing root exploits? Usually - they do break the root updates and we're back to square one for a few weeks.

So - we'll have to see about all that.

Best bet is to snoop XDA and see if anyone's taken the OTA, rooted it, and is providing it as a flashable zip.

If so, please start - and sticky - thread on this in the root forum.

Big PS to that warning!!!

I never did find out which site - but users went to some other forum last week on the Evo 4G update, because those guys gave the answer they liked: that you could update rooted with OTA and then re-root. In fact, they insisted this was the way to go.

Lot of unhappy Evo users came back here, got all the right help - some are stuck now unable to root but at least have working phones - and some were simply screwed to the point of having to return their phones.

We're the oldest and largest user-help forum for Android because we're the best.

If any other site gives advice contrary to what you find here - by all means, PLEASE discuss here before acting.

Some sites give beanie-cap advice and insist they're all experts - without actually trying what they recommend!

Worst thing that can happen to you if you follow my advice - you wait an extra day or two for solid advice from rom developers.

To add to what you posted, I think that AF users put a lot of the confusing geek speak mumbo jumbo into simple terms that are easy for the non-geek, but capable user to understand.

This IS the best Android phone forum, and will continue to be so because of our core group of helpful and friendly users and staff.

I updated my software today and everything worked great. Had to fix the Twitter issue but that was all. The only thing I can't figure out is the new swype feature. I can see the swype menu under keyboard settings but I can't figure out how to make the keyboard use swype. I know I'm missing the obvious but I just can't seem to put my finger on it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

This update fixes issue with streaming media through some applications and adds:

Update tip!

After receiving an OTA update for your HTC Android phone, ALWAYS a great idea to go back into your settings, software update and in this order: Update PRL, Update Profile.

The PRL is your database list of Sprint towers. Your profile is used to validate your phone can access your Sprint account.

Good stuff! ;)

Long press in any text input box, an option to choose input method will come up, choose swype....
