If there is anyone in the Central to Northern Jersey area that could help me out that would be cool? Just name your price. I have owned other android devices in the past where I have rooted and did the whole custom rom thing in the past but the Thunderbolt seems a lot harder than those so I'm a little hesitant to jump in. I'd rather have a professional.

I used the easyroot + soff from XDA on both the stock and MR1 OTA to root. Simple as hell, but when I get my new Bolt Im going ADB. Ive watched vids and read the thread on it multiple times. For the most part its all copy and paste. This is my first android phone and I had no issues. If you dont feel comfy with it, I could google talk you through the whole thing when I do mine.

Ok, so I get where you are coming from. I am a relative noob at this. My TB is my first android phone. I debated to root or not for a while but felt that the benefits outweighed the risk. I do like to tinker and I will typically put in the research first.

If you are technically inclined and willing to watch the vids in the above posts, (*recommend the adb method for absolute postitive outcome) you will have no problem. I did it one night while my wife was snoring next to me. Took me about an hour cause I was super careful. But it went as expected and i learned ALOT about how the file structure and adb tools work. There is a very good chance you are going to need to have at least a basic understanding of that in case your phone locks up for any reason (not talking bricking here...but just hiccups needing fixes.)

Anyway, take it in small bites cause it can feel a little like drinking through a firehose. The effort is definitely worth it and you really don't need to pay someone -- when it will cause issues for you when its 1am and you need to correct something on your phone.

Good luck and you are in the right place, this forum is awesome...lots of experts ready and willing to assist!

Check craigslist. Mutiple people willing to root the bolt here is Tucson for $15.00. I used this method on the stock and MR1 update found here [Updated: 3/26]Easyroot + S-Off [Version 1.6.3.11] - xda-developers.
Good Luck and have fun.

You don't really need someone to walk u through it, if u Hav problems just post back here and people will help u

Also rooting doesn't necessarily fix the reboot issues.

+1 on both things, but if hes needing it, Im willing to help. Its cake and not a problem for me personally. Rooting will NOT fix reboot issues, but trying out other roms and the MR2 or MR2.5 might. I never had any reboots on the MR1 so I count myself lucky.

My phone rebooted randomly 7 times today. I NEED ROOT...PLEASE HELP. what's you gtalk?

How come Virus hasn't updated his thread on xda? It's kind of annoying that he only releases these nightlies on twitter

Lol. I dont know man, a couple people have asked him to do the same. He mostly just pops on XDA to say that hes got a new build out. He spends more time Devvin than worryin about "paperwork" so to speak. haha. His thread here is updated with every release.
