A bit harsh, don't you think? It is rather ironic that, after dissing Android and accusing them of copying iOS for so long, Apple themselves adopt features that were distinctive to Android. Perhaps they've come to realise that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and it's simple evolution to adopt best-practice from other sources?

Above all, please remember the Android Forums' maxim: debate the message, not the messanger.

Don't misinterpret my comments as saying Android is rubbish, it isn't, I've just been aggravated by all the anti-Apple comments (I know it's an Android forum). I, personally, have an iPhone 4 and enjoy the OS (although it isn't the complete article yet (and most likely never will be, what with technology always evolving and transcending)), though recognise that Android is pretty good (I had 2 Android phones in-between the 3GS and 4).

I wouldn't say that Apple have adopted features from Android, more from the jailbreak community (who in turn took inspiration from Android).

I apologise for my previous abrupt post, and hope that the word 'jailbreak' is allowed to be used. If not, I apologise for that as well.

I prefer Android to iOS but there is no way iOS is rubish i still like it and it is a very good very smooth OS and best part is that it's easy to use.

You and me both. The bottom line is both are merely smartphones, not a religion. Comparisons are inevitable - I'm sure much the same goes on in iOS forums - but we try to discourage flamewars before they flare up.

No need - spirited debate is good so long as it's within the rules. This is a very useful topic for users contemplating a change of handset, so I'm keen to see it live long and prosper.

I use PowerAmp from the market. Great player and ive recently got the music App for Google music beta. I think the music player is excellent. The earbuds that come with it are pretty darn good too. Better than what Apple gives you though i still use my Skull Candy's instead because i just like em better.

To the guy that said he cant sync...i dont have a Mac so i cant compare but you shouldnt need Kies to sync your phone. Granted i still have the Gaxacy S, not the new one but should be the same. I just plug it in the computer and mount it and open my Micro card or internal card and drag into it what i want.

Of course Android added advantage is you can drag and drop your file to the phone without actually syncing and you can do that in any PC.

to iOS fans, I truly agree iOS is a very polish OS. Everything from the Apps to the Phone. There is no doubt for those who use iphone before.

Android OS is still need to polish especially their App Market, but no worries Amazon App Store is a more polish App Market. The search is more precise.

Android OS is becoming more and more mature in time to come.

If you are compare to OS flexibility, customisable, Android is the winner. That is why more advanced user prefer Android OS over iOS. iPhone required jailbreak to have more flexibility, whereas Android you don't need to do that. Anyone can just change the background, you can use the phone as USB storage, you can watch Flash movie from the web page directly or watch any File type of movie from flv, mov, mpg, avi or whatever movie to mkv without need to hack the phone.

Recently, iOS also adding on Notification feature on the phone which is a good news. Both OSes are great and for different category of user.

Having read Stub74's post, I am also considering a move to Android and onto the Galaxy SII. I've had my iPhone 3GS for 24 months now and it only became bearable when I jailbroke it a few months ago, if I hadn't iOS would be very boring.

It's upgrade time and Android is looking more attractive with this new handset. Are there any other members that moved from the relative comfort and familiarity of iOS and how did you get on?

welcome to Android OS, you will never regret due to its OS flexibility. OF course in term of product finishing ( i mean App Market, OS and Apps) not as good as iOS, but you have more Flexibility in Customising your Flip screen with all kind of Widget.

A side from the Android, the image of how you perceived Android a good OS also very much depend on the Brand, the Model of the phone you buy. Android not like Apple where only Apple has iphone and no other type or lower cost version.

If you were to purchase a phone from Samsung Galaxy S/S 2, HTC Desire HD, HTC Sensation, Motorola...... as long as it is from these 3 company, likely you will say Android is a good phone. Of course you get an entry phone from these companies, you will say Android still far behind Apple.

I would say Android is an exciting OS because you have lots of phone choice, whereas iphone is a boring phone, because the flip screen looks the same as for all iOS.

Integration with the desktop however, is a major weakness. There is no backup capability. Sync'ing doesn't really work as the provided software (Kies) doesn't run on my Mac and anyway sucks big time. Be prepared to do a lot of faffing about with multiple tools to achieve what iTunes can do with no effort whatsoever.

I consider myself to be a hacker and I like to mess about with my phone. If you do too, don't hesitate, jump. However, I wouldn't say this is a phone to give your granny though. It may be powerful, but it's not as easy to use as an iPhone.

Android phone do not require syncing. You sync your contact and schedule to your gmail. You can even sync your sms to gmail https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&feature=search_result
Of course you are used to syncing your music via iTune, you probably have to install 3rd party apps to your Android and PC. For Mac i think a little difficult. Anyway, you can just copy & paste your Songs to Android folder either Internal memory or mSD card.

Once you use the phone long enough, you will find you can do much more on Android OS.

i made the switch a few weeks ago. In short, ebay, facebook, email are better on IOS, everything else is better on the S2. and the ability to navigate the phone like a removable drive is great.

There are issues with the polaris office that people don't seem to be talking about though so if like me you plan on using this a lot, be careful

I have that app but never used it. Dont need to. I synced my music from iTunes once using DoubleTwist and thats all i need iTunes for. I drag and drop now. Dont care for iTunes and hate updating my iPod because it usually erases data on some games if i ask to not transfer other apps and even vice versa. Just dont care for how iTunes works.

I have been using iOS 5 beta1. The slidedown notification center is somewhat similar to the android one.. However, after switching to SG1, I misses the notification on the lockscreen and be able to slide on a particular notification and goes right into that app.. is there a similar function of that in android?

The stock GS2 lockscreen tells you how many, and can take you to missed calls or messages.

Although there are a range of lockscreens that allow you to launch directly into any app - or simply change your phones sound profile etc.

That's one. I personally prefer WidgetLocker. But this will allow you to slide into the app. Spin into the app. Drag into the app. There are a huge range of themes that have different ways to launch into an app. Easy to find - they're all located in one forum that the device automatically takes you to.

This has been around since September, last year and also allows you to display your widgets on the lock screen also. Great if you put an agenda or something on the homescreen.
