If you havent rooted yet, DO IT NOW!

Just want to start by thanking everyone who posts on this forum. Reading it all has helped the rooting process go flawless!!

But if you havent rooted your hero yet, then you need to. I just got done with it last night and the performance boost is EXCEPTIONAL! I feel like i just bought a new phone! Everything is quicker. The keyboard is better, apps load quick, everything is snappier and just plane old fast! It is totally worth it and EASY AS PIE! Just use the auto rooter and read the directions. I did it the first time with no problems!! Plus the UI is cleaner, smoother and just looks good with a nice lockscreen.

Theres my rant :)

I agree. I did the same last night. Now I just need to learn how to create custom boot screens and lock screens.

Thanks man, ima check it out

also, after you root your phone, you want to install a rom. I installed fresh 1.1. I moved it to the SD card and then restart your phone. When you restart, hold down the down volume key and then it will bring you back to the correct screen which you should select something like SD: zip file. go from there. There are instructions out there for that too, just look around.

Please people dont forget to do a backup before flashing any rom!

+100 to this.

ALWAYS DO A BACKUP after rooting, and before flashing a ROM or removing any apps. That way, if something screws up, you simply load the backup, and you're good to go again. Personally, I suggest doing a backup before doing any major changes, every time. If you load a ROM and have it set the way you want, do a backup. Then, if you wanna put another ROM on, do a backup. Rename them so you know what they do (wish I would have thought of that lol)

I concur... root and install the Fresh 1.1 Rom. All I can say is I should have done it sooner. I just rooted and installed Fresh 1.1

All the great things people are saying is absolutely true and the process is easy. Some of the things I am really happy about are: my phone is faster, the only Sprint app on my phone is Navigation, and I can WiFi tether (which works extremely well!).

i'm SUPER nervous to do anything to my phone b/c i'm an idiot and the whole car ride home and that nite from the store, i customized the crap out of the phone and downloaded a whole buncha stuff. i read somewhere that it was either rooting or upgrades that wipe out the phone....but that's upgrades, right? so is there a way to backup the phone right now, do all the upgrades, then root? i'm still learning and reading about this so excuse me ahead of time if i'm incorrect or in the wrong forum!
