Anyone who wants to try it. z4root works, once you run permanently root it will reboot and the controller wont connect, just turn it off and on at the wall.
changing the lcd density to 200 make it look nicer. adw launcher works nice. don't send things to it from teh market on your pc it will cause android.acore to crash.

Wow I went on vacation for a few days and there's been a flood of activity on this thread. Which is good meaning more people are buying and experimenting with the unit and I'm not alone any more. Now will try to answer some of the questions asked by you guys to the best of my ability.
@ RADAR1 interesting problem , no I don't have such issues as I have cable connected on Scart1, this unit connected on HDMI2, when switching between these modes is no issue whatsoever, is your TV remote somehow on the same frequency of FV-1 remote that somehow when you click the TV mode signal it is translated by FV-1 as “turn off”, else changing mode on your TV has got nothing to do with this unit. I hope your issue has been resolved by now.
@Maurice C I had the same issue of finding out the wireless MAC address as I also filter through Mac address rather than other security features, unfortunately there is no way to find out the Wi-Fi MAC address the only way you can do it is to turn off security features on your Wi-Fi router and then try to connect this unit through Wi-Fi without any security it should show up in the connected device section of your router interface which you can access through web. I did it the same way.
@NX3 I installed android system info version 1.14 and I have no crash whatsoever on my unit. you should give this app a try hopefully this might resolve your issue.
@ diomorgan most of the apps work on this unit. For instance Skype does work only on IM chat though I did try to call out using Skypeout and I could hear the ring of the phone from my TV speakers, now I am planning to buy a Bluetooth headset and try to connect to this unit assuming that the Bluetooth stack has been left intact and certain aspects are not disabled if so then I think should be able to have voice chat as well, if somebody has tried it please do let me know saves me the money to buy the Bluetooth handset for this experiment. Besides skype I have installed launcher pro, maga viewer pro, movie stream, TV show stream, hungry shark, angry birds and bunch of other kids games. My kids are also using it to do their web-based school homework. I haven't tried any hard-core stuff such as rooting the device etc.
@miji2 thanks for the links I did visit and studied and managed to upgrade my unit without any hitch though I had to reinstall all my applications. The air mouse was giving me some trouble but powering off and powering up again sorted the issue. I think this update is meant for the main Chinese market as it has a lot of movie streaming links from Chinese server which are web-based and in Chinese.
@ Warpedflash have you tried to use VISIONary to root the device. Any advice on that has anyone tried using this app to root, sorry just need a heads up don't want to brick my unit my kids will kill me.

Awanone, thank for the answer, but the most important for me is Watsapp since a lot of my friends use it on their mobile.I just would like to know if whatsapp will recognize that system is NOT a phone (as it does on iPod Touch/iPad).
Hope you can help me, but, as said befor, thank you very much for your previous answer! :)

Hello to all friends of the Forum
I am very interested in this box and I wanted to ask friends if that Android software on the network can share files in the hard disk. The box can act as a Samba server or FTP server? Thanks to all

Using this device as samba server would be bit far fetched having hardware limitations such as ram and disk space , but yet again if there is an app in android for such purposes it should work , as far as the network sharing is concerned here is the link to the forum where a gentleman by the name of steveandbelle have done some work look for update2 on this following link , its fifth post from the top

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1679431

hope this helps you please do update us here if you do manage to get this little box working as a samba server that i would love to know

Ok i did install the whatsapp on my FV-1 which i have already upgraded here is the image you can see the app installed in the red box

unfortunately it doesn't work and i get the following error message as in the image below

fvh2tl.jpg

now the reason why it doesn't work in this system is quite straight forward this software replaces/supersedes SMS services and FV-1 doesn't have any SMS service as it is not a phone but designed more on line with tablets I am sorry i couldn't be of more help , Please do bear in mind this unit doesnt replace/perform as a phone

Thank you Awanone for the tip about the MAC address. It is a clever way indeed.

By the way, I am not sure whether I have a defective remote or else. The green light doesn't show up instantly when I press the on/off switch on the remote. In fact it is booting up but the green light turns on only after one of two minutes. I would have thought that it turns on as soon as I press the switch. It also takes longer than I thought to boot up.

Firstly a very big thankyou to awanone for replying to my query. Unfortunately the problem is still the same and I'm getting used to re powering the box each time I change TV inputs!

I do have another issue at the moment which is to do with a mini bluetooth keyboard/trac pad I bought from ebay. No matter what I try I cannot get it to connect to the FV-1 (I've paired and connected it to a laptop without any problem). I can see and pair it with the FV-1 but nothing more.
Has anyone else tried to do this?

Thanks.

Hi,
im really intrested in one of those device, tho no HD MKV playback is a bit of a disapointment. But i still have my WDTV for that.
I was looking forward to use this to surf the web (flash is not really needed), email and so on my big TV. Slideshows with pictures of my camera SD Card would be nice to, as well as some games.

Is there a chance for HD Playback in the future? the hardware should be more than cabable imo. I googled arround and found several other movieplayers for android, many with hardware acceleration, has anyone tried other players?
I watch many small encoded tvshows (also anime with subs) in mkv container (H264 Video). Has anyone tried those? Resolution is not bigger than 480p.

I found several other android based set-top boxes arround, but i really like the normal UI and the wii-mote like controls on this one.

@Maurice C not at all your unit is not defective, its same here. One thing you need to get used to of buying Chinese product that Chinese tend to deal with quantity and not quality they make money selling bulk and that's the secret of them being the cheapest in the world and when you are dealing bulk one tends to cut corners left and right like buying slow response of transistor circuits and other electric hardware which is cheaper than the most current updated versions. Usually big companies like Sony and LG or Samsung tends to focus on quality hence a price tag.
I also when want to turn on the unit have to hold the power button for about 20 seconds before I even see some activity happening or like turning on first-time booting process or cold boot takes longer but the subsequent stand by power on cycles are slightly quicker. I hope it helps

@RADAR1 I used to have a similar problem with two of my devices one being the TV tuner and the other was my media player every time I try to play my media player the TV tuner would reset itself to the very first channel on the program list. My suggestion would be just try to change the TV mode manually through the controls on the TV rather than through remote control and then see whether this unit gives you problem cause as far as my knowledge goes HDMI output is a one-way communication with the TV, I don't see any other reason than remote frequency conflict.
Blue tooth is also a sore point for me as well, I recently invested some money in buying a Blue tooth hands-free under the assumption that I might be able to work skype through this unit for voice chat as previously when I dialed out from skype out I could have the bell ringing on my TV speakers so under the assumption that the Blue tooth stacks are left untouched I might be able to connect my hands-free and get the signal going. Under the original version I was not able to pair anything with a box except it picked up something most probably my hand phone or something for Blue-tooth file transfer. I have updated my system following instructions from the other website { link mentioned underneath} which tends to add a lot of Chinese bloatware I have yet try again to connect my hands-free with the system. I assume you are going through the same problem my sincere advise is to is to use wireless dongle-based keyboard and mouse rather than Blue tooth-based or try [at your own risk no responsibility to me for advising] updating your system and see whether you can reconnect it to the Blue tooth keyboard I hope this helps.

please read through the above link ,somewhere it is mentioned by somebody about resolving their Blue tooth connectivity issue by upgrading their software on that note please do remember that sometimes upgrading might brick your box that's the risk you need to calculate on your own. I hope this helps

@Sonic-NKT this impression is not true that this unit cannot play MKV file format. I have already posted a video on this very format couple of posts up yes it might not be able to play high-resolution MKV video but it does play MKV video. In fact I am yet to come across a video format which unit cannot play as demonstrated on the same YouTube video.
Streaming MKV through your network might slow down the player function but I haven't seen any problem if you are playing it through ST card or an attached HDD.
Having said that in couple of days I will find couple of MKV formats and play them through ST card and put up a video just to clear this issue out as far as I can understand playing upto 1080 p shouldn't be an issue.
If you can post few links or PM them to me for the MKV files that you are worried about whether this unit can play or not I will try to play them on my player make a video and upload it you can make your decision whether to invest in this unit or some other.
