had a play with a pals SGS2 and i have to say it wasn't for me, dont get me wrong, it's a great phone but what struck me most was how light and flimsy it felt, while some people might find that an advantage, i was afraid to look at it the wrong way in fear of breaking it, my job also requires something that can take a bit of abuse, there's a lot to be said for aluminium construction.

Are HTC coming out with anything better soon?

HTC are ALWAYS bringing out something better.

The HTC Desire, which was the flagship phone at the time of release, has now been superseded by: -

- HTC Desire HD
- HTC Desire S
- HTC Incredible S
- HTC Sensation

And it's only just over a year old..

And that's not even counting the phones that may have been released abroad, that's just the UK phones.

Is there any rumours or official releases due though? G/F is due an upgrade and she wants my Desire, but the Sensation just doesn't do it enough for me right now, so wandered how long i'd have to wait.

Nothing that surpasses the specs of the Sensation to my knowledge, except there's plans for a 4.5 inch one, so that might exceed the Sensation.

For the time being the Sensation is to stay HTC's flagship device, as everything else is going to mid-end stuff. (Just saying what I know).

Nah nothing official.

Most of HTC's new flagships are only marginal updates from the last one. Sure the Sensation has a dual core processor, but ask anyone who has owned both the Desire and the Sensation whether they're that different. They're not :p

I wouldn't expect any drastically updated phones until NFC and 4G become more popular.

i went for the sensation (should get it soon)

a couple of reasons:
- i had a miserable experience with the original samsung galaxy (not the S, the i7500) and don't want a samsung again

- while the sgs2 has a more vibrant and contrasting screen, the sensation has a higher res, which is imo more important in practice

- i don't like the fact that the sgs2 looks so much like an iphone (both hw & sw wise), and i prefer the metal over plastic

- while the sgs2 is a bit more powerful, it doesn't really matter that much in practice; both of them are quite powerful enough

I just ordered the Sensation. My logic is/was that the SGS2 looks too flimsy and I like Sense. The Samsung UI looks rubbish.

When spending that much money, you want a phone to be reckoned with. The SGS2 looks like a poor man's iphone. The HTC looks way better.

Yes, the SGS2 beats it performance wise but on my home PC, I long stopped chasing the gigahertz and prioritised silence over performance. For my phone I'll prioritise which looks like it will stand the test of time over performance.

Got the Sensation and its awesome! Can't compare it to the SGS2 as I won the Sensation but I'm happy to have it. Still on 100% battery from 7:20 this morning, albeit I've not been using it as I'm in work but it's still impressive - this is with my normal sync options from my Desire as well so it's a direct comparisson from what've I've come from

That's fantastic! How did you win it? What competition etc?

Me, HTC. As long as they fix phone storage space, would like stabilizer in camera, not sure if either of these have that. But unless they fixed the 3 .5mm Jack on galaxy I would get the HTC. The last galaxy doesn't work very well with any headphones deigned for ipod and so none marketed at cellphone use. HTC doesn't work flawlessly as istuff would, but it's passable. Samsungs don't work at all. Appart from that size and feel would go into it for me. I personally don't care to root my phone. I still don't really see the advantage. Only one for me I think would being able to install my own hosts file.
