Help X2 Sound Issues?

I couldn't find an existing thread that dealt specifically with the documented sound problems when listening to music so I wanted to start this one to see if I could get others to list specific scenarios where they are hearing problems.

The reason I ask is that I was streaming Slacker for half an hour today to test a paired set of stereo headphones while trying to recreate a problem another forum user was having. Not only did my headphones work flawlessly (or at least as flawless as they ever have with other devices), but I heard nothing unusual during the 30 minute stream -- no hisses, no pops, and no skipped songs.

This makes me wonder if there is something unique causing the problem for others. Perhaps multitasking, Flash, MP3s vs streaming, minjack headphones? I know all these examples have been mentioned before but I don't believe a common link has been found. If we can find something, I'd like to test the specific scenario on my end keeping in mind that I am rooted with several apps frozen or uninstalled (including Flash).

Just figured we should keep a thread reserved specifically for this issue rather than mixed in with other "symptoms" of a faulty smartphone (for the record, I think the X2 is fantastic).

Sound issues are the number one problem, but I am getting no sense by VZW CS that it is being looked at very seriously. Seems the DX2 was created to bleed out some DX1 component stocks / excess add-on products and and quick bridge product bridge due to the Tegra 2 and LTE radios not getting along. Motorola probably secured Tegra 2 production batches and are also bleeding those, rather than eat them.

I am not getting a wholesome feeling the Droid X2 is getting a big support backing.

Me neither, however, I did see a DX2 Father's Day commercial floating around yesterday on TV....

I wonder if we'll see any sort of root support or customization that we see on the DX1...I'm really starting to lean towards returning the phone. It sure does seem like Motorola had some extra parts leftover from Bionic failure etc....and we are the ones that bought them.

Though I like the DX2 (assuming the media issues fixed), it seems obvious that DX2 equals DX1 and Bionic inventory bleed-out.

The Bionic is going OMAP 4 now, so now more time (late summer at best) and idle inventory wasting money.

DX2 is still a few fixes shy of fantastic, none the less- IF the issues are or can be fixed.

Meanwhile back in the thread dedicated to sound issues...

I havent had any skipping or popping, but I have had both doubletwist and pandora stop. They both just stop playing music. They both act like they never started a song in the first place. Its painfully annoying to have it stop every time in the middle of a song.

Heh, you only saw it then? I've seen it getting pushed routinely, especially on FS North during Twins games. :p

I will be... quite displeased, if they don't support it enough to fix that issue. I'm getting what's either a popping or a cutting-out randomly, in Winamp, as well. :p

This forum informed me that it wasn't from using the 320 Kbps MP3 setting when converting from wma. Saw somewhere that using that might cause cutting out, but... *shakes head*

could someone explain the poor sound quality on songs. I am looking at x2 vs. 4 g phones. I do not need 4g. However, I got rid of my ipod, and use music is exclusive from my phone. If I can't reliably listen on my phone, this is a deal breaker. Does this happen to everyone, and what exactly is the issue?

This^^. No problems in 2 weeks, but today playing music from sd card every song just stopped about half way through. Slacker radio worked great, but even after a reboot every song stopped halfway.

Any one else have this?

I returned the X2.but this is exactly why I did,the same sd card, and pandora/slacker played flawless in the droidx...I had verizon tell me the reason it skipped was because I needed a bigger SD card, and ext life battery....When I told her I had the 16gb card out of my droid x and a fully charged ext life battery, she changed her tune, and called motorola...

Lucky you did it in the 15 days. I am seriously hoping Gingerbread fixes the DX2.

This thread appears to be slow moving but I will add my experience.

I have a DX2, rooted running the stock rom. I don't have any of the bloatware deleted or frozen right now. I am running Go Launcher.

My experience with audio quality is that it is very poor. The sound quality of the audio itself is just fine, but when listening to audio from the SD card, Pandora, or Slacker the audio cuts out at least once per song. When listening to streaming apps such as Pandora or Slacker, the audio will stop mid song and then go to another song or stop all together forever. The audio also gets choppy when listening to streaming apps. This seems to happen whether the data connection is 3G or a WIFI connection.

I hope there is a fix coming soon for this problem. I rarely had problems with streaming on my Droid, and NEVER had playback issues from files on the SD card.

For me running V6 supercharger at these settings got rid of pretty much every/any audio problem:

6,20,100,70,80,90.

I also froze some bloat and am running sd speed boost app. Really, the audio is VERY nice. Much better than my droid X. Stuttering, popping, skipping is basically completely gone. Bluetooth seems to have more range with my bt headphones than my DX did too. Overall, i have zero audio issues with my x2 after making these changes.

Definitely seems to have helped it than what it was, but still, if I switch tasks, I can definitely her the stuttering. I just hope Motorola fixes this issue because it's completely inexcusable.

My previous Droid, an LG Vortex, ARM6 600mhz, didn't have this problem at all.

Again, thanks for the settings. I've applied them and they have improved the playback from what it originally was.

The audio form my X2 sounds great when it is playing, but there are issues which create a frustrating experience. I primarily listen to Slacker and always through bluetooth stereo (A2DP) including headphones and a bluetooth receiver connect to my car's aux input. I have the Slacker plus account which means I can cache stations rather than streaming. Caching improves things a lot, but not everything.

One issue which I don't believe I have seen anyone else complain of is that A2DP drops out frequently. When this happens the bluetooth icon in the notification bar remains lit (thinks it is connected) but the music stops playing. During this period Slacker will cycle over about 6 seconds of the second indefinitely. Sometimes the A2DP comes back on after a minute and other times I have to reset everything. The problem gets more frequent over time. Following a reboot it takes a while for it to occur. My theory is that something in the Android OS that controls A2DP gets swapped out. I didn't think this problem occured with the regular media player, but recently I do believe it did.

In general, I find that Slacker can't survive any multi-tasking. If the phone rings - Slacker almost always swaps out (terminates). If I try to go to browser, email, texting, any other app - Slacker almost always swaps out.

When streaming, I experience song skips like others have reported. This seems to be worse when streaming over Verizon 3G than WiFi but still happens with WiFi occasionally.

I also experience pops/cutouts but not nearly as often since Gingerbread.

My setup: X2 with Go Launcher EX. 4 home screens with lots of widgets and shortcuts. Touchdown (Exchange App). Nothing else unusual. I don't know of many people running Touchdown which is always active in the background. Maybe some of my problems stem from that.

I have found that v6 supercharger along with rasing the max events and the scan interval have eleminated all of the "pops" and have increased the speed of the phone. The only time I hear it pop is when a new song starts. I used Rom tool box to make these changes (very useful app, I would recommended it). You can make the changes under performance>build.prop tweaks

I am on liberty 2 Rom (if it maters)

Hope I helped
