Hello,

I want to give the G2 to my sister and buy the HTC sensation for myself. Because my sister is a very heavy texter and she doesn't use the phone for anything else beside talking and texting.

I called Tmobile and the rep told me that he can't activate the G2 on my sister account (which is on the same family account with me). He said to be using the G2, the account must have data plan.

However, i discovered that all android phones (or maybe most of them) have the option to use only 2G networks. So my question is, is it possible for me to just activate the option and plug my sister's sim card into the phone? Is it safe to do that? cause we don't want to receive a huge data bills on my sister account just for using the phone.

Any suggestion ?

Yes you can use the G2 without data. Some reps will give you a hard time as TM makes all of their money off data on smart phones. I use my Moto Cliq for a long time with no data plan. Reps will tell you all kinds of lies. Why do you need to call to "activate" a phone on TM? Just plug your sisters SIM card in and you should be good to go. If you need to call TM for any reason just ask them where in the contract it states you need to have a data plan to use the G2. They won't even bother looking as they know it's not there. If they still give you a hard time and you don't really feel like hold them accountable for their incorrect information, just add the $10 data plan, hang up, and remove it via web. Nothing will happen to your service.

Actually it is stated int eh contact that you sign for 2 yrs. I just got my G2 last month and it is in there you must have the data plan with the phone. Now there are ways to get around it . I used to have a blackberry and i removed the service , and sometimes they will allow you to remove the service from the phone but they charge you a heavy cancellation fee for doing it . Because again when you upgrade you signed the contract and it does say requires a data plan .But i know people have bought the phone

Be careful when you do that, because I know one time I put my SIM card in a phone, and I got a text message saying that my data plan was added to my phone and the new charges will start. I wanted the data plan, so that wasn't a problem and was kinda convenient, but still. I don't think that's a good idea. LoL!!

It was when I had the LG eXpo (At&T phone unlocked on Tmo) and then I went to the HTC HD2 and it turned data on my phone by putting my SIM card in it.
