LTE Tiered Data To Begin July 7th

Well, let's be realistic here, the numbers are NOT substantiated in any way.

For those wondering, the link:

Verizon tiered data plans coming July 7, starting at $30? -- Engadget

X owners might consider locking themselves into a 4G unlimited plan soon if they want 4G data for the current price.

That said, those numbers are absurd. AT&T is half the price for 2 GB. I suspect the real numbers might come in lower, because I don't see how Verizon can compete by doubling its next biggest competitor's rates.

With the introduction of tiered data packages rumored to come soon, I want to make sure that my TB is grandfathered to the unlimited package. I pushed my upgrade up for this very reason?

Is there any way to check? (Note: I tend to distrust VZN employees as I have found they often do not know what they are talking about)

It's quite a tough choice.. there's no 4G phone I see worth locking yourself into for 2 years currently, but you'd save a ton if you stay grandfathered into the unlimited data plan. Verizon is simply getting more and more ridiculous in their pricing if these end up being even close to the actual prices we see when the plans are put into effect.

Just heard about this at DroidLife

The retes are absurd too! $30 for the LOWEST plan?!?!? WTF! They're just TRYING to push people away!

I would pay $30 to Verizon for 2gb before I would pay At&t $20 for the same 2gb.

Why?

Because the service with Verizon would actually work.

Since I will have the "all you can eat" 4g plan for a while I will use it and abuse it.

Wait, isn't 2GB of data at AT&T $25.....how is $30 double of $25??? Still $30 for 2GB of data is RIDICULOUS!!!

I don't mean to come of rude but I don't get why you'd wait. Locking yourself in seems like the only option at this moment (if you have an upgrade available). :(

As for me, I'm waiting till the end of this month, just in case some new phone gets released for July 4th. I'll probably get the charge though.

I've been contemplating this myself.

Well if you are currently with VZW then this won't affect you now, unless you choose to use an upgrade and you have to sign a new contract. The prices seem reasonable if you are going to use more than 2gb monthly VZW would be cheaper than AT&T. I will likely try to keep my unlimited data as long as possible, I don't mind paying full price for phones.

The contract you signed was for unlimited data, therefore they cannot change the terms without giving you the chance to opt out. Unlimited will remain until the end of your current contract or until you switch phones.

i think its insane to go from $30 for unlimited to $30 for 2GB...granted...i would bet that 99% of users will see no difference as they never use 2GB of data...

but i was TRULY expecting a 2GB plan to come in much less than $30...

I was actually expecting 3GB of data for $25, or at the very least 2GB of data for $20, but, I was way off!

yup...in a way i feel shafted lol...i was somewhat of a supporter of tiered data because i thought it would actually end up SAVING some people money that do not use a lot of data...

i was WAY wrong...

BEST CASE scenario you pay the same and only get 2GB of data?...WOW :(
