Root How Long Until CM4DX Comes out of Beta?

I'm not trying to say anything like CM7 should be perfected, but how long do most think it will take before every feature works for the X? Not perfected but just works most of the time. I'm just curious because this is the first phone I've actually rooted and paid much attention to hoping something new and cool would come out. I would try it but I have my phone set up perfectly on the first version of rooted GB and I definitely need my camera as my phone IS my digital camera. So yeah just curious as to see what people are thinking.

...this is one of those questions like, "Will Motorola release another software update?"

Nobody knows. Nobody can even speculate. Why ask?

edit: this isn't entirely pointed at you, so don't take offense... just thinking out loud.

Well I figured it would be something like that but seeing as the X has such a vast community of devs, I was just wondering if fixes were possibly being worked on or if there was going to be no reason to look for any big updates.

when its ready to...end of story that is the ONLY answer to this question...

Very very vague but completely works :p

Oh, I'm sure the fixes are being worked on, but this is really new territory for the X, so even if you were to take averages from other ROM development, you wouldn't get a good handle on it.

Speculatively, it took 10 months to get to 2nd-init working on the X, then like 4 days to get to a booting CM7 install, then 3 days to get to a really highly functional CM7 install, and another 2 days to get up on the nightly builds... so given that level of progression, I expect CM7 to be completely bug-free within the next 27 minutes :D

Not to pile on to what has been said, but we are a week closer today than we were a week ago. The good news is with all the beta testers and creative people out there fixes for problems may be found sooner than later. If the question is what has to happen to get CM7 out of beta that is a little easier. From what I am seeing there is really only a couple things:

-Get the camera and camcorder working
-Fix the media play back for some video (youtube / netflix)
-Fix the battery reporting (battery life seems to be good, but what it is reporting is using the battery seems to be wrong) If there is really an issue where the cell standby is using 50% of the battery I will say battery life will be amazing.

From running once those things happen I can not see a reason why it could not go to RC status.

Coarse network location is a big one too...forcing gps for geolocation uses a lot more battery

It seems to be working for me on update #4. I was out today and Fancy Widget updated my location on my home screen and I have GPS location turned off.

I do agree this would be a bug, but I left it off because it seems to be working now.

UPDATE:
Ok I just tried Weather Bug and Rainy Days and it could NOT find my location without GPS on, so this is still an issue and I agree this should be fixed as well before we are out of beta.

I don't understand the coarse location issue. Google maps will locate you (even with GPS off) although this isn't a killer for me, it's really annoying. There's nothing in aLogcat that points to any file/setting in particular.

The media playback issue sounds like stagefright. I might fiddle with that tonight or tomorrow.

The cell standby issue is the biggest problem IMHO. It seems to be a general CM issue. From what I've read, it appears that phones are looking up UMTS AND CDMA signals regardless of which architecture they use.
The setting for this is in build.prop; it's set to the right value "4" though.

Another issue is sound. The sound out of the speaker sounds "muddled". The bass is too overpowering (this is with dsp of). I believe this to be a result of using the Sholes libaudio (I think cvcps was having a hard time compiling it).

Yeah, you can't really get a concrete answer to the question you posed apavolka.

The devs will just keep churning away until they feel they can do no more.............when that will be, who knows ;)

This ^^ is what I was looking for. I just wanted people's view on how long they thought.

There was an update to the libaudio in 5th nightly, have you checked that out yet?

Your phone can find a location via GPS satellite, provider tower locations, or wifi said. Actually it uses all three at the same time for best results. What you are seeing on Google maps without satellite GPS is Google's knowledge of where wifi routers are located (street view does make your life easier).

So there is now a fix for the Camera, with 8MP picture taking. This fix also fixes YouTube and Netflix. This is over in the CM7 Rom thread.

So this now leaves:
Camcorder, Network Locations and the more minor issue of the Battery Reporting.

My guess is now since people seem to be finding fixes it may only be another week or two before there is a fix for these as well.

So we are down to only needing a fix for the Camcorder.

From the latest nightly everything seems to be fixed except the Camera, Camcorder and video playback. If you flash the Camera fix zip this fixes everything by the Camcorder.

At the rate of the fixes I would think we should at least see a RC build sometime next week. I jumped on this the first day it came out and have not been happier with the build and the progress thanks to some of the users and developers. My phone has never been this good. I would say the closest to this was Apex, but this blows that away, and no disrespect to Fab, he did great staying within what Motorola would let him do.

I don't know if it's been posted or not, but apparently the stock messaging app is not sending sms according to rootzwiki.com on nightly #7.

Uh, I sent a message and got a response to that message this morning on nightly #7, so it's not a universal problem.

Unless the person I sent the message to magically intuited what I said and responded exactly.

edit: Oh, and yes, it was the stock messaging app since I don't have any other SMS app installed.

Was it SMS or MMS? :) Bouchido meant that MMS isn't sending in the stock SMS app, I believe.
