Official Gingerbread (2.3) for the Shift is here! w00t!

Bummer! Make sure you have sufficient power, so keep on charger as long as you can. Let it take what it takes, and when it's done, we're going to get together and look at your 3G performance. After the update, follow the PRL and Profile update info I've posted earlier in this thread, and see also http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-tips-tricks/280082-major-solution-fix-your-slow-3g-speeds-evo4g.html

Please PM me and 330D and we'll see about making a similar sticky thread here in this forum, after your update completes.

Meanwhile - wait it out if you can.

After 2+ hours, I stopped the download. Now when I check for available HTC Updates (several times), it says no updates available. Yes, says on Android version 2.2

While you're here - update your PRL and Profile.

Download free Speedtest from the Market, test 3G speeds, see if you at least at 300 kbps speed for download.

Remove battery for 60 seconds, then re-attempt with wifi. If that fails, re-try with 3G. If that fails, give it a half day or day, try again.

Thank you ! Speed test shows Ping 44 ms; Download 44 kbps, and upload 9 kbps.

I do not have WiFi at this time. Have been waiting for Verizon : They told me they would be here 6/17 to identify and correct whatever the problem is. Still waiting for them to show; now told they would be here between 8&8 today! Still waiting.

Forgot to mention: This phone is NOT rooted.

Try that PRL and Profile update I mentioned - did that improve your 3G speeds at all?

(plus - took me a few minutes to realize Verizon=home internet for you, yes?)

Yes, the Verizon problem is with my home internet. The technician still has not appeared.

I have updated both PRL and profile and pulled the battery. Ping now 361, Download 294, and upload 20.

Have not been able to get the download to reappear: keep getting message that "There are no updates available for your phone." Server must be swamped!

well maybe some one could tell me whats goin on in sprints network because ive been on wifi wating for the htc update to get done checking so i can install update for ohhh bout half an hour are you sure its out for the evo shift yet this is kinda irritating

Dude....it's not OFFICIALLY out yet, so you can't blame Sprint. The only reason you know about this at all is because some folks checked and happened to see it was available if one tried a manual update.

After it's OFFICIALLY released, then you can b-tch.

It is officially released, it's simply not progressed to push the over-the-air update (where the user simply says OK) until the 20th (today).

Until then, servers will be busy, and it's way ok to complain and seek help - that's what we're here for.

turkbot - give it another try, that's all you can do. Others in your position found that that works for them.

Interestingly, I was offered the upgrade twice once on Saturday. I declined due anticipated use of the phone. I tried pulling it down and was presented with "no updates available", then Sunday it poped up with the OTA offer again. Gave me the option to do WIFI only or Over 4G/3G. BTW if after the download you select install later, you can copy the download off the SD card to your PC so you can have a backup. Upgrade is working for me, at least so far. Nothing I can call an issue.

Ok, well no big deal, but I do want to point out that the Sprint announcement wording makes it sound like TODAY was the official release:

http://community.sprint.com/baw/com...from-sprint-to-get-android-gingerbread-update

Note the first sentence: "HTC EVO Shift 4G from Sprint will receive the Android 2.3, Gingerbread, update through an over-the-air maintenance release beginning on Monday, June 20."

Even if the wording had been open to interpretation, I'd argue that until their systems are officially pushing the update out to people and the servers are prepared for the mass rollout, that's not "official." But again, no big deal.

In any case, I'm nervous about trying an Android update the first time it comes out. Seems there are always a ton of problems that they didn't catch during beta testing that they then have to scramble to fix. I'll probably wait until the inevitable service release update to this.

If no one tried the update, how would we know there were issues? I'm in, regardless of whether it screws my phone up. (and the soft reboot is no big deal anyway)

Now that it's been around for a little while, sound positive. Any idea if there will be a mainenance update? Does it need one? The Shift I mentioned earlier is now 2 shifts ago. The current is new, not a refurb. Asked nicely after returning the second replacement the next day. First thing I did was shut off HTC updates. Still 2.1, wanted to keep our options open. Gonna update again when wife gets home saturday. I'm assuming I just check for updates, correct? It's been a couple of weeks, but I assume they stay there?
