Root what does "the process com.android.phone has stopped working unexpectedly" mean? and how to fix it?

Ok so starting ALL the way from the beginning on when this happened:
Ok so i went on a camping trip about 3 days ago, i didnt have signal the whole time. Well on the way back i got my signal back and my phone worked fine. I was able to call/text/get on the internet and i was also able to receive it. Well on(June 19) i got a txt from my bf at 1pm. I txtd my friend and those txts sent, but i tried to txt my bf back and it did nothing(this was around3-4 pm). Then i tried calling and my signal would go from 3G(all bars) to no bars or no signal, or it'll say 3g with the roaming symbol blinking next to it. Anyways on with the call: it would freeze and act like its calling but hang up the call and say "Network Busy,Call was lost" So i pressed the end button and got this message "Sorry! The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly.Please try again.(force close)" it would say tht message for everything i tried doing i.e:call/txt/internet. But around 10pm i started receiving txts. And my signal said 3g w/ 3bars. So i decided to try and txt back/call/get on internet and it would do the same thing("the process com.android.phone has stopped working unexpectedly"). Why am i able to receive but not be able to go out? Ive tried calling from my home phone to customer service but all i get is "busy"....So could it just be cricket? This morning when i woke up, i had more txts and my signal was working fine. So 1st i tried the internet..It worked perfectly! Then i tried to txt people back and all i get is the "Message pending" message. After tht i try to call and the SAME thing happens!! I'm sooo aggravated with this. IDK what to do. I've seen people "rooting" their phones when this happens. Well idk what rooting means and im not about to try it!! In case i didnt mention, my phone is The Hauwei Ascend(m860) from cricket. i've had it since the end of Jan of 2011.
Can someone tht is a COMPLETE TECHNICAL GENIUS help me!? Please! i dont have insurance on my phone and cant afford a new one.
BTW, I've restarted my phone more than a million times(ok there is some exaggeration,but gets the point across tht my phone is being stupid!) Thanks!
i would like some answers tonight/ early tomorrow b4 i waste time and gas to go to the cricket store and find out its just the towers.

Welcome to the forums! Cricket has been having data connection issues all weekend, so that might be the problem. Try dialing *228 and send from your home area and see if that helps. If not, I would call *611 and ask for assistance. They will probably be more helpful than any of the store employees. Good luck!

It wont let me call out at all. I keep getting the "Network Error,Call was lost." message. Before i make the call i have 3G signal but whenever i press the talk button my signal drops to no bars.

So Questions i have: What happens before?
I know to go to: Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset, but,
Can i take my SD card out so i wont lose all my pics/music files?
What about my apps i.e: Facebook,Gmail, etc? Will i beable to log back on using the same info as before?
I know i have to re-download apps so ive made a list of the apps i have.(pretty smart huh?)
And i have "MyBackUp" pre-installed on my phone. ive backed up everything(well tht i know of).
OK! What happens after i reset my phone?
Like the things i backed up, where do i go to get them and how?
I know this is alot of questions and im sorry, i just dont want to make a mistake. i dont have insurance on my phone and i cant afford a new one if i mess this one up. PLEASEE HELP!

Well, I'm nowhere close to being a technical genius, but doing a factory reset will make your phone like it was when you first took it out of the box. You will be able to set it up with the same gmail account. This will not erase anything off of your sd card, but you can take it out if it makes you feel better. Your facebook will not be affected because facebook keeps track of all of that on their servers. I've never used the my backup, so I'm not sure how that works. You can also back all your contacts up to your google account and they will be on your phone when you sign back in with the same gmail. Or you can save them to the sd card. I would still call cricket customer service with a different phone, because sometimes they can reset some things from their end. Even without insurance, the phone has a 1 year warranty if something is physically wrong with it that you didnt cause (like dropping it, water damage- etc). Hope this helps until one of those geniuses passes by lol.
