I am considering on getting an EVO 4G as a second phone since the price has dropped and it is expected to keep dropping, but I feel like I should ask the current EVO 4G owners how much longer they are planing on keeping their phones, I had one and sold it, never really regret it yet I do miss my EVO. What do you thing? How long are you planing on keeping your EVO 4G?

well i just bought my phone last august, so i'm not eligible for an upgrade til next year. as long as the devs are still supporting the evo, i will keep it until upgrade is due. can't wait to see what is out there at that point in time.

I really really like my EVO, and I became eligible for "update" as of June 1st, but have no qualms with the EVO currently. If you plan on rooting, it makes it that much better of an experience. The EVO lets me do everything that I need, and I think you definitely wouldn't do any wrong getting it, especially as a second phone...my .02. :D

I love my EVO still, but will more than likely be switching to the Photon 4G once it's released (hopefully be anytime in July or August at the latest). My current EVO will then go to one of my secondary lines, while the Optimus S currently being used on that line will be sold.

Nontheless, this article says that Wirefly is having a EVO 4G special for a "free" upgrade or new contract, if you're interested in getting the EVO 4g

I'll be switching when the Nexus 3 comes to Sprint (assuming that the rumors I've heard about this phone are true).

I doubt that'll be anytime soon, if Sprint gets the Nexus 3. Rumors say it's a LTE phone and Sprint's deal with LTE was barely announced last week, so if they did get the Nexus 3, I'd put its release sometime around 1 year after the Nexus S was released (which was a month ago, if I recall correctly)

I can wait a year. I have no complaints with my EVO and I don't want to sign a new 2 year commitment for an updated gingerbread phone when ice cream sandwich is relatively close on the horizon.

I plan on keeping my evo till at least Oct of next year. Hopefully by then we'll have a better idea of sprints plans on developing their 4g network weather they completely abandon wimax for LTE or create phones that work on both if that's even possible

that's something that I have been thinking about as well, tho, there are so many phones being released every month that it is kind of hard to try to wait till plans are 100% laid out, and as far as I have been reading nothing it's supposed to change for another 2 to 3 years eitherway.

If you're willing to wait, then that's a different story. I'm sure there'll be plenty of other phones that might even be better than the rumored Nexus 3 at that point.

I'll probably keep mine the full 2 years...which for me is October 2012.

I got lucky with the EVO. It turned out to be one of the most popular phones...so there are lots of accessories for it. There is also a large community of users for this phone as well. It even gets prompt updates from HTC (even if they break the phone :p)

So my next phone will have to be a "star" of sorts. I don't want some limited production phone that only 200 users of this forum have...and there are only like 100 threads on the phone. We'll have to wait and see what the hot thing is when it's time to upgrade. I definately want to be a part of a large support group.

I may even leave Sprint. I went with Sprint due to their plan pricing and the fact that they were the only kid on the block with 4G. By the time I am able to upgrade, LTE will be very common all over, and a switch to Verizon ($20+ extra per month) will be a possibility.

Till the rip it from my cold dead fingers? While I'm typing this, I'm flashing my wife's Epic to stock so we can take it in to be looked at and probably swapped again. This one has developed some sort of memory error that's causing it to lag and lock up randomly, similar to what Epic #1 did out of the box. Maybe it's just our bad luck, but every Samsung Android phone we've owned or used (Moment, Epic, Intercept) has had gps issues, memory issues and been a pita to get to sync with certain cables/usb ports. Add in painfully slow updates for each phone and you'll understand why I'm so down on Samsung. My wife's Epic experience (this will be the 3rd phone) is bad enough that instead of taking the next upgrade we're due in a month, she suggested that I take it and she take my rock solid Evo. I'm disappointed in the Evo 3D's gimmicky interface and don't know if I want to give up my 4G for one, I certainly won't be moving to another Samsung phone anytime soon regardless of spec. The Evo may be older, but it still outclasses the newer Epic by a mile IMHO and makes me smile every time I use it. Best toy ever.

I got my Evo on launch day last year, and I am already eligible for a full upgrade (Sprint Gold Member), but I don't think I will be upgrading any time soon. I had really thought about the Evo 3D in the past, but now I'm just "meh"...

We'll see what comes along by years end

Photon 4g is an evo with faster processor, better battery out the box, and a lot more internal storage.

That actually sounds like a phone I would like but Im still happy with my Evo. It also looks like it should possibly be a world phone if I read a few rumors correctly. By the time I would finally upgrade my EVO the LTE network would be getting started. Might want to wait for that.

Yes. Forgot about that. It is a world phone.

Nontheless, I can understand your wanting to wait. I love my evo, but the low storage error was bothering me and happening too often.

I've had my EVO for 6 months and i'm very happy with it, outside of the battery life. The Google integration makes life so much easier. At this moment I can't really ask for much more.

As me this question in November/December 2012.

Haha - almost like me looking in the mirror!

Unless, it breaks or something else compelling comes out (besides sexy Sense or Motoblur or whatever UI is laid on top of these OS) that proves to be a game changer/performance enhancer...status quo too for me.
