I would like to ask users to post their results on the preloaded apps they've safely OR regrettably uninstalled. ( And also request an apk if needed )

So that we can all contribute to the well being of our phones. For the insured and uninsured alike :D.

Also for the unavoidable fact that this phone has a embarrassing amount of internal memory .

I will create a list that will updated daily in
THIS OP

__________________________________________________

If possible post information in this type of format:

1. What app or method used to uninstall.

2. GUI name and or exact system refrence/apk.
(Just to help eradicate all confusion. Like this for ex. Clock - [ALARMS]clock 2.2.2)

3. Any possible side effects from uninstall.

4. Possibly the amount of space you saved by uninstalling

Any reliable information will be noted and you will be thanked for your submissions :)

EDIT:!! It seems that uninstalling Talk is causing some weird things to happen on my phone. The only thing I can assume is that I had it set before to never sign me in, but now that it is gone the GMAIL app must also sign me into talk automatically and I am now getting notifications on my phone that I never used to get and I can not respond to. Luckily my wife has the same phone so i should be able to get the .apk from there and put it back on my phone to see if it fixes the issue.

Here is the apk for talk straight from my phone. Backed up by titanium backup pro :)

How/where did you download gas buddy from? I did a search on the market app and could not find it...
I actually had to download it using another phone then I pulled the apk from the download cache and saved it then put it on my sd card and using root explorer on the prevail went to that folder and installed from there.
This phone will not see gas buddy online I tried to install it to phone from computer, searched android market on pc then install to phone it would not work.

Is it safe to uninstall the factory installed version of Google Maps and then install the latest version? I think if I install the latest, then in takes up twice the space.

I have not really paid much attention but I think I was at 5.5. Yesterday, it ran an update and I think I am at 5.6 Seems to run OK. Just make sure that the market is set to Auto Update Maps.

I used it yesterday and it worked great.

Not sure why you would have to uninstall? I am not sure about the space issue.

I believe what he means, and I have found my self. All the map updates, and market too it appears go into the /data/apps which uses up the available user space. If you move it to /system/apps and reboot it will work. You get back your space and all is good.
I actually moved Several items there, anreboot, accuweather app, ebook, reader, the new swype beta which I love by the way, gas buddy app, gps speed graph, the new version of maps and market updater, new version of Vending, and xScope browser, though I did that before I installed the new rom, replaced the stock browser. Also I found on market gingerbread stock launcher that has been reworked for froyo and I put that in and replaced the stock launcher

Yes, that is right. So, I just installed the map update and moved it as you suggested, and everything is still working as it should. So I would imagine for the next update that it will be a process involving deleting the "old" update, then installing the new update, and then moving it again to system/app. Do you think I'm going about it wrong? I believe this will work, but don't want to go about it in a way that is too tedious.

Oh, BTW, in system/apps i now have two maps files (I think original v4.6 and v5.6). Can I delete the 4.6 (Maps.apk) file?

Yes you can delete the old one. I renamed my new one to Maps.apk so it just replaced the old one, then I found that was going about it the long way, just moving it was enough.
When the new update comes out it will more then likely be named the same as your current update, (com.maps.. something I dont remember) so when you move it, it will overwrite what you have now.
As to your process ya that would be too tedious, download the update, it will install it to the /data/app from there move to /system/app it will overwrite the old. done.
