security and stolen handsets

nice, i didnt realise it was so easy for samsungdive to be disabled. i might very well switch to this although i dont really have such sensitive data on my phone.. but the app is jus 2.99 euro, i think its a great service for the price, thanks for sharing :)

You are welcome.. Theft aware 2 has some awesome features..it's on free trial so grab out and try it..
One caution. It doesn't play well with 3rd party sms right now.i use go sms pro and since their last update the theft aware isn't working..but I believe both devs are aware and are working on a fix..

read about another app called wheres my droid. its free. activated by sms, it gets ur phone's location via sms, n also can remotely make the phone ring. doesnt lock/wipe the phone. and im not sure how it works when the sim card is removed, but under the feature list, it mentions "Sim card change for stolen phones (BETA)"

i read somewhere that it can remotely turn on GPS if its not already turned on, but i cant seem to figure that out when using the app

EDIT: the sim card change thing is: sends a notification if the sim card/phone number is changed, to a pre-defined phone number or email address. not sure it notifies me of the new number or just to say its been changed :D

Hi, I am newbie in Android. Just registered with SamsungDIVE and when I want to register my phone, I was asked to sign in. But I couldn't sign in from my phone thru Remote Functions. The terms of services kept popping up nth times. And no matter how many times I accepted it, again the term of services pops up yet again. Pls help!

i think a lot of these apps do the same job, and as well.. so i guess im sticking with samsung dive for the moment.. the only reason i'd change is if any one of these apps has that feature where it doesnt get disabled when ur sim card is removed

I think that seek droid can track and wipe the phone regardless of sim card being in it or not.

going to test it out later on today.

Will post my results later.

i just bought and installed seekdroid n its awesome. i just gave it a rough test, n it got my location pretty much spot on, using only 3G. btw, in one of their knowledgebase articles, they say that turning off GPS doesnt save battery life, as any app turns on the GPS device when in use, and turns it off when not in use. is this true? coz ive been keeping my GPS off all the time

Not sure by reading the site that it is able to activate gps if not already turned on.

Seekdroid doesn't work at all- very inaccurate location / Problems / Discussion Area - SeekDroid Support

It looks very good for the money. However, Theftaware does have some very cool added features for the extra couple of dollars.
1. You are able to get a carbon copy (cc) of all text sent to you
2. You can get a full report about what numbers are being received along with what numbers are being dialled
3. You can even make your stolen phone call you (secretly) so you can listen in on the thief
4. You can chose how often you receive sms updates from the stolen phone
5. You can intercept sms messages and forward to a new number

Just a few I can think of...

So it looks like the two programs offer great value for money....
