Root root the thunderbolt?

Hey guys. Well this is my first Android phone and I realized i can root it. I looked online but the only ones I fpund was for a version less than mine. What I'm getting at is is there a root for the thunderbolt version 1.13.650.7? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i am not an expert on the thunderbolt yet (only had it a couple days) but i think the auto root/unroot file from the link below, downgrades your phone to the shipping OS, roots it, then flashes the latest OS version. so it should work for all phones.

Someone PLEASE correct me if i am wrong, as i am probably going to be using this tonight to Root my TB. i am stock with the MR2 radio.

Thankfully my phone came with the stock software (no MR1) so I haven't had any of these issues. I've been deferring the MR1 update for weeks now waiting for the alleged 6/30 update.

quit hating on this phone its amazing. if you have insurance then go ahead and root it. trust me it so worth it you will fall in love all over again

I will never understand the "it voids your warranty" argument. Unrooting is as easy as rooting and they will never know the difference. I even sent my rooted OG droid back once on a warranty claim and did not have any issues. In fact, almost every android owner that works at my local VZ store is rooted AND they encourage it for buyers with the willingness to learn the process.

i totally agree. i sent an eris i unrooted and never got a bill or anything.

First off, I love the T-Bolt. I've done the research on rooting the Thunderbolt. I'm looking at doing it this weekend. I took the first update (software 1.13.605.7). I'm having some random reboots when the phone is off. I want to root for the main reasons everyone does (wireless tether, have full control, customized, remove or freeze bloatware, and overclock/underclock the phone). Should I root now before the next update from Verizon or wait and accept it and see how it goes. If I root, is there a fix already for the random reboots or will that come out around the same time Verizon releases their update?

WOW someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this monring i disagree comepletely about this phone bein junk. i love mine,it has been rooted since the exploits were made available. i have never run the stock software after rooting,and coincidentally my phone does not over heat,doesnt randomly reboot,etc.

the manual method linked above is still considered to be the best,safest,and most foolproof way to achieve permanent root and an s-off bootloader. all the auto/easy roots are based on it(they just automate the process),and i have see a couple instances now where the full root on current firmware and s-off was not achieved with their use.

ill second everything solid orange said. if you need to send your phone in for a hardware prollem(camera,speaker,etc) and it still functions correctly,its easy to unroot prior to sending it in. if it locks up,freezes,bricks,etc... it doesnt really matter that its rooted. they cant turn it on and catch you

dont let the warranty(or the haters ) scare you... if you want to root,go for it.

My experience with the Thunderbolt, root it. If you are scared afterwards it is very easy to unroot using Jcase's method on XDA. I recently had to send my first one back due to blown earpiece and the process of unrooting was painless. Once I got my replacement, as soon as it was activated it was rooted again!

as scotty said, follow the guide there, here are some youtube videos i found helpful as well as reading the guide over say 5 or so times before actually completing the process. I also watched these videos probably 5 times each.

Here's a question. I remember after I rooted my X and went to some custom ROMs my Market was really slow, or wouldn't download apps at all. No errors, they just wouldn't start. Went back to stock and it was fine. That is the reason I'm trying to hold out for Gingerbread. It's easier for me since i never downloaded MR1 but I'd like to have the GPS actually work too Anyone experience this on the custom ROMs for the bolt?

No, not at all. Never had any market troubles on any of the Android phones I rooted

if you're even considering rooting... just do it now... never a reason to wait

I've had all kinds of custom shit running on my verizon droid and blackberries for years. Never once had an issue if I wanted to return / exchange / etc.

I'm not worried. I always had the newest leaked firmware on my BB, rooted my Eris and my X. I just don't want issues upgrading to Gingerbread when the time comes.

Also, I suppose the lack of a utility such as Moto's RSD utility to get everything back in the even something breaks makes me a little hesitant. I might though...

what,exactly, are users expecting to be so great about the GB OTA that theyre so worried about getting it the official way,over the air?

honestly,if you put a phone running froyo next to a phone running GB,they are not going to be visibly different when you run them side to side- theyre gonna be runnin the same sense 2.1 were used to seeing. im not by any means implying GB isnt a worthwhile upgrade. it is.

at any rate,jcase will undoubtedly release a flashable,completely unmodified OTA ROM that you can flash in recovery. it will not be any different than what it would be if you wait and get it OTA. youll just have it sooner,and youll be rooted and know that youll be able to stay that way.

keep in mind that it is NOT gauranteed that youll be able to root after the OTA. GB frameworks and such are different,and a new temporary exploit will be needed. will they find it? probably,but no one can know for 100% sure untill it happens. however small,there IS a chance you wont be able to root 2.3.4.

if people are just afraid to run a leak because of what happend with the eris(a leak basically prevented future rooting), they need to understand such shenanigans are possible with an OTA as well.

the safest thing,really,is to root and run the stock rom provided by our great developer,or one of the many custom roms are and will be based on it.

thats funny... thats the very thing i hated about my OG droid-the fact that there was no hboot flashable files,and you had to use RSD lite and sbf files. i personally feel much safer flashing the snot out of my htc phones. you can flash stock RUUs in hboot and get the same result as sbf-ing a moto phone back to stock,except you dont need a seperate,finicky installer program on your PC to do it

I understand. I think I'll give it a shot. I'll go through the root sticky and follow the videos. I think my main reason for being leery about custom ROMs is because I used Liberty, Fission, etc. on my X and had major Market issues.

thats understandable i have not had any market issues at all if it makes you feel any better. also,rooting deosnt mean you have to run a custom rom. you can continue on your stock rom,and then run stock GB. thats the cool thing about jcase,he will release the recovery flashable stock roms(including the vzw bloat) for the many folks that like you,do not want to run a custom rom.

Excellent, I'll take a look today. My Internet was craptastic last night for some reason and I couldn't download HTC Sync for the drivers.
