Help Droid freeze on white screen, after factory restore

I did not root this phone, just use it for a phone, text, and a few apps. Froze up on the first white startup screen, so I did a factory reset using the power/volume down keys. After that, it still froze on the same screen. So I left it alone for about 20 minutes and it finally moved to the next white screen, which it looped with the "droid" red screen. Round and around they go, one, then the other.

I just want my phone back.

Any suggestions?

Pull the battery for a while and try starting again.

If that doesn't work, try another factory reset.

If that doesn't work, you can try re loading the OS. (Do a google search for htc incredible RUU)

If that doesn't work, time for a new phone.

Sorry, actually the RUU won't work because you can't boot. Look in the root section, at the sticky at the top, for the thread on "how to downgrade to official 2.2"

To do that, it needs to be in disk drive mode, which I won't be able to do since it won't boot. Is this thing a goner?

Yeah, that is the link I looked at, step 3 is set the phone in debugging mode and set it for disk drive use.

Verizon offered me the one year renewal price, less 20 bucks, so I can replace it with a new smart phone for $179. Not a bad deal I suppose....

You don't need to boot your phone all the way up for the method I linked you too... Just need to get into hboot, which you can.

Just have to format the card to fat32 and transfer the pb31img.zip to your sd card, can use a $10 card reader for that, or any other phone with a micro sd card slot.

Yeah in your case just don't take the instructions too literally. Like sdrawkcab said, get access to the card by other means...usb card reader, SD slot in a laptop, other phone etc. Once the card is formatted (dont forget that'll wipe the card), and the file in the linked thread is on said card, then put it into your phone, go into hboot and follow the rest of the instructions from there. The thread was written assuming a working phone.
