Root Return your NS4G back to factory

I'm new to Android and just got a Nexus S a few weeks ago.

I'm interested in rooting it just for the hell of it, but I only have one main concern: If I got back to stock, can I get OTA updates again?

I understand I could flash the stock update manually, but I really want to be able to do it over 4G; it's just easier.

I like the option of being able to relock the the bootloader, and I'm assuming this is what prevents some phones from being able to revert to OTA updates.

Any help you can provide would be awesome.

PS - thanks for the tips on returning to stock ROM

This doesn't appear to work.

I got it to the yellow triangle screen as shown in the Samsung app, but it fails when trying to download.

I manually relocked the bootloader and now when attempting to get to the Yellow Triangle screen w/holding both Vol & Power just takes me to the "unlock bootloader" screen.

This is wierd.

Does anything need to be done if a custom rom has been flashed to the phone? Such as having to flash back to a stock rom before running this .exe file or can we just run the .exe file from or custom rom and it will bring it back to stock?

Thanks for all your help guys

this will return it to stock.

the difference between fastboot mode and download is you need to pull the battery to get into download mode (yes every time)

this does nothing but error out for me.....I run the exe and it gets all the way to the stage where it is trying to start the download and it just errors out....

Yep, that's what happened to me. Tried twice and then used a different method, but I wanted to make it work this way.

Shabbypenguin, do you know if this actually uses **SAMSUNG'S** files to return to stock?

I'm uncomfortable with using another user's provided files to return to FACTORY status.

That's one nice thing about iPhone/iPod touch jailbreaking: you can always return to stock via Apple's files.

all you need to do is this

boot into fastboot mode

open up a cmd window

drag and drop fastboot.exe from teh one click to the cmd window

type in oem lock after wards so it should look like so

c:/path/to/where/the/shit/is/fastboot.exe oem lock

and that should get ya situatiated :p
