COMPLETE backup??

With my Blackberry if I needed to re-install/change phones, I just backed everything up, and if you got the same/similar phone, after restoring literally everything is the same, you don't need to change any settings.

With Android backup programs I saw different ones backed up different things, but I am wondering if there is any backup where it would leave me without having to re-set my phone up.

I need to do a hard reset because my Gtalk isn't working well, but I spent so long customizing, I REALLY don't want to re-do everything, especially since everything I've done has been recent. I also think it's a lot of work to re-install everything and re-do all my settings, whereas if I just could restore my phone to the state it is in right now, the reset wouldn't be bad at all.

I'm pretty surprised that Blackberry actually has such a better backup feature than the Android, one of the bonuses of smartphones to me was that you could back everything up and restore it without any work at all.

Sprite Backup.

It backs up EVERYTHING so when you do a restore, you get all the settings, layouts, contacts, sms, mms, EVERYTHING.

A lot of people have said that it didn't work like it says but I did a hard reset last night after I used Sprite Backup and my Hero is identical to what I had it at prior to Hard Resetting

My phone isn't rooted, I wanted one without rooting the phone, I just wanted to fix my Gtalk.

Sprite I saw, but I was worried about the reviews, would I be able to tell before I reset if it was backing everything up?

And can I do it for free or only some of the settings for free?
mybackup does a good job and gives you a 30 day free trail

Does Sprite backup apps (ie, the ones, paid / free I have downloaded from the market)?

hey Regression, what did you find out. I was looking at Sprite, but the reviews are not real promising. I tried MyBackup and it did NOT backup email settings. I agree, my Blackberry was super easy ... back the whole thing up, connect the new phone, and boom, it's exactly like the last one. Sprite was supposed to be able to do this, but I don't know if the bugs have been worked out yet.

No, I don't think Sprite does. I bought it since it was only $0.99. I have been backing up nightly (scheduled backup), but I have not had to restore, so honestly can't say how good it is. And I am not brave enough to hard reset my phone just to test Sprite ;-)

For apps, I do two things. I use ASTRO File Manager to backup my apps to the SD card. My understanding is a developer can mark his app "private" and that will cause ASTRO to not back it up. I also believe ASTRO only backs up free apps. Which I suppose is OK since my paid apps are tied to my Google ID, so if I were to hard reset and sign in to the app store, I could download the paid ones.

I also use a program called App Dragon. It will list the app (and version number) on the screen and allow you to email it or copy it to your clipboard. It looks like this only lists the free apps as well...

When I install a new program (or update an existing one), I use ASTRO to backup everything up and App Dragon to email me a list of my programs. Both are manual, but so far I have not found a complete backup solution.

Thanks.

Sprite supposedly has a long and successful history with Windows Mobile (WinMo) backups. And their little blub says "trusted by 17 million". Maybe they just need some time to get it fully developed.

Hey! I wonder if the Android Software Development Kit (SDK) can back the entire phone up.

I saw an app for rooted phones that sounded like it might do a full backup image. I don't remember the name, and I don't even know if I can root a Droid, or how hard it is.
