that might just be it..my E4g was a launch unit hardware version 3, which had the NOVA screen i believe it was..eitherway it was the brighter screen of the two (EPSION VS NOVA i think). I noticed the difference when my brother brought his E4G last December and the difference between them regarding color was very noticeable... guess ill compare my E3d to his screen and if it matches up then all is good...one thing i will need to get use to if its is the same screen is the color difference..im so use to the colors poping and being RICH with detail....the display on the E3d is nice, but color wise and brightness level wise, my E4G is far more superior...

Its something ill eventually get use to with time...but other than that I am REALLY digging the phone!!

Probably a dumb question, but is it possible you're using a sub-par screen protector on your EVO 3D?

Coming from the evo 4g... love the 3d in general, but if i put the phones side by side with the exact same brightness settings, it looks to me that the 3d's screen is not at "bright". Looks to have a very slight yellowish tint (the whites on the 4g are "whiter" on the 4g). If I didn't have a 4g to compare with i might not have ever noticed. My question - does anyone here see the same thing when comparing the 2? Should i be concerned that i have a defective phone?

Coming from the 4G to the 3D, I pretty much have the brightness all the way down. The thing that is annoying me right now is when I view 3D content the E3D automatically turns the brightness all the way up high, and it's too bright to view in all but very bright light - can't use it in a darkened room at all.

I couldnt agree with you more... I actually made a thread about this already.
The reason I think we notice the screen brightness and color issue is because our evo 4gs had the nova screen before HTC swapped it out for the epsion screen, which as you know isn't nearly as bright nor rich in color..right now i have my brightness at about 70% which makes it manageable for me

That makes sense about the nova and espon screens... Why in the world would they not use the novatel screen, I mean, the difference is night and day IMO. I guess the good news is that we don't have defective phones... I agree that upping the brightness to about 70% makes it close to the 4g, but i sorta do like the auto-brightness setting for the battery savings. Oh well, I think that all of the other positives of the phone outweigh this negative so far.

Mine is the opposite, the 3d is brighter on full brightness and brighter on auto. I will take pics when my wife gets home as I still have both. My Evo is a ver 0004.

I look forward to the pics. My 4g is version 0003. Maybe "brightness" isn't the right term. The 3d might be as bright or brighter in general, but the white levels are where i see the big difference. For instance, if you are in an app that is mostly white (like email), I notice the difference big time. The home screen clock is another good example. I don't have a third camera to take them side by side, but once i do, i'll post pics.

I wouldn't worry about the screen not being as bright when you're in 3d as compared to the evo... You're comparing apples to oranges with a feature that doesn't even exsist on the 4g.

My screen is a lot higher quality than the 4g was. The colors do seem a little darker but imo the screen always looked a little washed out on the 4g. A quick game of angry birds shows much nicer colors and sharpness than the 4g screen looked.

I think you'll get used to it in time and forget about the other screen...

I'm not talking about in 3d mode, just 2d mode in general. I agree about the screen being sharper, but the "yellowish" of the whites just had me concerned, but it looks like its the epson screen as opposed to the nova screen on most 4g's had. What hardware rev is your 4g?

Here you go. My Evo 4G vs 3D screen brightness test:

img1329x.jpg

Both phones are set to max brightness. My Evo has hardware profile 0003. I got it 1 week after launch. The panel tech is Novatec.

I'm going to say that the Evo 3D is a tad brighter. If you consider the Evo 4G to be pure white, then the Evo 3D is going to appear yellow. However, if you think the Evo 3D is pure white, the Evo 4G will appear magenta. I've compared the Evo 3D to my color-corrected desktop monitor. I post-process thousands of photos, so I depend on color accuracy. Evo 3D is pretty spot on. The white carries no tint. It's the Evo 4G that is off.

The EVO4G do not have whites and if so very rarely. It mostly shows grays that appear white until you compare the screen to one with a white scren ike the Iphone 4. I compared the 3D with the 4G today and although the 3D has a bit of a yellowish tint, it is much cleaner and far more closer to white than the 4G and I had a NOVA screen.

Ditto, I totally agree with you. Before I even saw this post, I tried to describe the same thing that you did by stating the the EVO4g's whites are actually very light grays. I compared both screens and it jumped out at me that what I thought was white all along really wasn't. I also agree the at the 3d is brighter. I have mine on 50% and that's plenty bright enough for me and I typically keep my screens brighter than most.
