Blame Google for the slow 2.1 update

No one has really come out and said it yet, but all of you with phones waiting for the 2.1 update can blame Google. By waiting until Jan 12th to make it available even to developers, they knew that their own Nexus One phone would be the only one running 2.1 at least for a few months, thus giving them an exclusive. Why not make it available to developers ahead of time so they could have a working version ready by Jan 12th? Clearly Google did it on purpose.

why blame them? they're just trying to get some $$ from ppl who couldn't wait a couple of months.

Because I see everyone and their mother blaming Sprint or whoever their carrier happens to be for the slow update when its clearly not their fault. They cant be expected to have a working version up and running the same week or even the same month its released to their developers.

htc has had 2.1 for months now (they put it in the nexus one) but they have been the ones draging there feet waiting for sprint to ask for the updae and working out a deal with them

How do you know HTC wasn't bound by Google for releasing it on other phones? I could very easily see Google saying "Here HTC, put this on OUR phone, but you are not allowed to update any other phone for another month"

You honestly think that? You dont understand business too well. Why would Sprint purposely wait on an update to Android while its so hot right now? HTC and Google work closely together and you can bet Google wanted some exclusive on the 2.1 update to try and sell more of the Nexus One.

Your logic is not logical. They could not be selling the Nexus One without giving the source to HTC.

And what good would it do if everyone on this board did actually go ahead and BLAME google?

We really do need a vent section of these boards so there is a single place for technical questions.

Google wants EVERY phone in the world to be on Android 2.1 If they were so concerned about "exclusivity" they would not have back ported Navigation to 1.6.

Again, you are not logical.

Hmmm... Does this mean that Android really ISN'T open source? Because if it is, my understanding (and I could be wrong) is that anyone should be able to get the source code from Google if requested. Now the SenseUI stuff is a different story.

So if EVERY Android phone had the 2.1 update when the Nexus One was released, you think it would have sold anything? Hardly. Ask anyone why they want a N1 and they will all say for the 2.1 update. The Snapdragon processor is just a bonus. No one would care about it if it was running 1.6

I can put 2.1 on my phone right now. Have you even used a Nexus one? That phone is sexier than Hayden Panettiere dying her hair red.

2.1 isn't all that awesome. What does it really have that we dont already have (I say we as in HTC Sprint Hero users which is where you are posting this) We have Nav, we have wicked widgets, we HAVE PINCH TO ZOOM. 2.1 will be cool and all, but its not that big of a deal.

Now that Nexus one hardware, damn that is crazy insane fast.

Is there a way to mute people on these boards?

If I asked someone why they wanted a Nexus and they said 2.1, I would brand them a ******.

From another thread, here are a few things exclusive to 2.1 but I am sure there are plenty more you dont already have on 1.5

Live Wallpapers
Universal Search
Better voice recognition with speech-to-text in nearly any text field, and text-to-speech native.
Better Facebook Integration (works better with Facebook sync, and doesn't modify the Google contact to do so).
Multiple Gmail/Google Account Support
More applications available, including Google Navigation
