Root Can I root my Evo into an Evo 3D ??

first off welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
are you rooted already? did you accept the ota?

Thank you today is my first day! I have not rooted yet but I kinda want to, especially if I can 3D it, do you know if I can? I have a jailbroken ipod, and that's given me a lot of problems, so I was wondering if rooting would do the same to my phone.

The EVO 3D has vastly different hardware than the original EVO. It also has a special screen that allows for the 3D effect. For all intents and purposes, it's not possible to turn your EVO into an EVO 3D.

Now, you may be able to flash an EVO 3D themed ROM onto your EVO for a little more functionality and a similar look to the 3D, but with no 3D effects.

there is a few roms that are out that is based off of the 3d rom and has sense 3.0! but first before you do try and root we need some info first. did you accept the gingerbread ota? can you check your hboot (power off then press and hold power+vol down). the top corner should say what your hboot is.

I did upgrade to the gingerbread a few days ago, and I tried the hboot thing but it didn't say anything?

ok well if you did the ota then you will have to wait. the latest ota gave you a different hboot (2.16). this new hboot does not have an exploit found to be able to root yet. once we have one found we will post it here on this forum.

to check what your hboot is. goto phone settings/applications/uncheck fastboot. now you should be able to power off then press and hold power+vol down.

Is there any risks to rooting? Like I said I have a lot of problems with jail broken ipod, with crashes and such. And I just did it and it was like 2.16

well there is always a risk. but a lot will depend on what the new method to rooting the new hboot will be. if unrevoked can find a way to root it, then the process is pretty simple enough. you just run their program and you are rooted. i would read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html guide. it has a lot of info that will get you prepared to root.

on that note rooting is so much better then jailbreaking an icrap. you have total access to your phone and for the most part (unless you do not know what you are doing)flashing roms and such will not break your phone.

Sounds like your fastboot is on.
From any home screen hit menu, settings, applications, then uncheck fastboot. Then power down. Same as before. Hold volume down and the power button till you get a white screen with 3 skateboarding androids on the bottom. At the top it will say what your Hboot is. If you took the ota to 2.3.3 and you didn't root prior to taking the ota then you are stuck. Keep an eye on the link posted above. Mine died last Saturday and it came with 2.3.3 installed on the replacement. Blah!
