Evo Shift 4G, Samsung Epic, or Nexus S ?

Long story short..I have an Epic, loved it, but I'm tired of the shit battery.

What is the Android with the best battery life between the Epic, Nexus S, and Evo shift?

I need to get a new phone that lasts, I know the Nexus S is amazing and all, but not sure about having no keyboard.

Anybody have the Nexus S or Evo Shift and know what the average battery life is?

(P.s Yes I know I'm posting this under 3 different phone forums..but I'm not sure which one it should be under, and I need all the opinions I can get , Sorry!)

I get about about a whole days battery worth with heavy usage.
But im on evervolv rom and scary kernel.
So either way, with the right rom and kernel you can get good battery life. Idk how the nexus is but i do hear it has good battery life as well.
Imo, id still choose the shift.

I have no idea how to do that rom/kernal stuff and I prefer just to leave my phone the way it is so I don't brick it lol..so it would have to be the best phone that comes with the better battery life without messing with it.

Thank you, I just ordered an extended battery which apparently has 3x the power of the standard Samsung Epic battery off Amazon. I'll give it a go, if it doesn't work I'll probably pick up a Shift in the next few weeks.

Working for Sprint, do you guys get a lot of Samsung Epic problem reports?

If I could get any phone now, I would go for the Nexus S. I hate Sense and I hate Touchwiz. I like my phone to have a very open homescreen and I love the way that stock Android looks.

When I am somewhere that the service is good, my battery will easily last 24 hrs with moderate usage. I am running stock sense gingerbread (rooted) with the stock kernal. This phone has great battery life for an android. They should take a page from the shift's book for all android phones, imo.

before I bought my shift, I was trying to decide between the shift and the epic, and did a LOT of research on both. everything I found online showed the shift was better in almost every way, especially in physical life. I even had 2 sprint store employees tell me the epic develops quite a lot of play in the physical keyboard after a short period of time, and the screen scratches much easier than the shift. I've also heard a lot of stories of the epic being damaged much easier when abused (accidentally of course).

I think the Nexus S is a great phone, however:

1. Nexus S doesn't have an LED indicator light of any kind.
2. Nexus S CANNOT be made to work with Sprint Visual Voicemail. Period.
3. Nexus S doesn't have an FM radio.

The first point might not be a show-stopper for you, but I really like having an LED indicator for messages, missed calls, or however I configure it. Nexus S fans will tell you there is a "No LED" app in the Market that uses the lock screen to show different types of indications using icons for mail, VMs, etc. However it's a little sketchy to get it working the way you want (I played with it on a Nexus S in a Sprint Store).

The second point was a deal-breaker for me. I like being able to access voice messages visually in a way that lets me see which one is which, from who, by date, etc. You can't do that on the Nexus S...ever. It simply cannot be "provisioned" to integrate with the Sprint VM system.

The third point was semi-important in the gym, where a lot of the TV audio is broadcast over FM.

I had an HTC Hero before this, so everything on the Shift is nearly identical to use.

One thing about the Shift I DON'T like is the slight physical shakiness that comes with the slide-out keyboard design. I didn't really want a slider, because I'm fine with on-screen typing. However, this was the only phone that currently had everything I need, and isn't HUGE like the regular EVO or the Samsung phones.

Also, keep in mind the Shift does NOT have an NFC chip, so if phone-scan purchasing picks up, you'll have to add one in the NFC-equipped memory cards that may be coming out, or use one of the stick-on solutions or "photo of your credit card" apps that are in the works.

Also the Shift does NOT have a forward camera, so no video chat.

I wish the Sprint Motorola Photon were already here..or the rumored "HTC Evo 4G+" for Sprint...but neither will arrive for a while, and I was SOOOOO pissed at the "old" Hero lagginess that I was going crazy, so....Shift for now.

Ummmm, google voice is vvm right from the android guys.... Way better than sprint vvm.

Me too. But, the phone is plenty fast enough for me as is. I get very good 4G coverage in my area. I don't see where rooting this thing could possibly improve It's already top-notch performance.

Well, a far as I know you still can't root if you updated to 2.3, so don't be scared lol.

Sure, but there have been tons of complaints that the official Sprint<-->Google Voice integration is NOT going well.

Sure, one could log into the regular Google Voice website using the browser, but if you don't have net access, it can be sketchy sometimes.

I still maintain that the carriers' various visual voicemail systems are quicker and easier than Google Voice.

I just think the Galazy S and the regular Evo are just plain too large to hold. Can't easily throw them in a shirt pocket, etc.

But you don't have to use your sprint number and integrate if you don't want. And you never hear about the cool part of gv.. The fact that when you don't have cell service, you can still text over wifi...


And, if you think sprint vvm is better, you have never tried google voice, and/or had to reset or if you are rooted, wiped a phone. As soon as you log back in, you have access to all your old messages. Nothing is lost. But I digress. This has been argued about elsewhere, and I don't need to justify it.
