Regret not getting a screen protector?

Hi all,

After seeing the scratch test on youtube and then seeing in motorola's forums, a motorala rep actually saying do not us a screen protector.....I'm thinking no screen protector!

Anyone decide not to to use a screen protector and later regret it? Have not seen any horror stories making me consider getting one?!?!?

pull out your keys and giver 'er a go. unless you REALLY go to town on it, you won't scratch the screen. i've done this at least half a dozen times to impress iphone guys. there is absolutely no reason to use a screen protector. it will only make your droid experience worse.

Errr sand..... will scratch it in a fast hurry. The key trick is getting old. Lets see how it holds up to a trip to the beach or a day in a machine shop.

When I purchased my droid they (verison) talked me into getting one.
It was crap! made the touch screen unusable. And as an added joke the instructions said that after applying the screen you should go and adjust the touch sensitivity. That function does not exist on the droid, and it was suppose to be a droid specific screen protector!

Needless to say I removed it and don't use one as any screen protector will degrade the touch sensitivity and you can do nothing to compensate.

I also had tried a couple, and I don't know about anybody else, but the ones that I tried would not sit flat around the edges of the screen, I don't know if there is a slight recess around the edges of the phone, but no matter what it just wouldn't sit down.

Since I refuse to use an adhesive based protector, I just freeball it now, I use a protective case (top side only, the bottom doesn't really need the protection being rubberized and all) and I'm pretty happy with it.

I got the Verizon ones at first, just the clear ones not the defective privacy ones, and they did suck terribly. They are flared around the edges and wouldnt lay flat and the fact that they didnt cover the entire screen was disappointing. Then I got the Phantom Skinz because I used them on my Touch Pro's and Touch Pro2 and it worked well but had permanent ripples in the lower left corner and that always bothered me. Overall the Phantom Skinz sucked too.

Well this morning I just applied my new BoxWave Crystal protector and it is noticeably more vivid and clear than the PS was. And I didnt believe it was possible but the touch sensitivity has improved with the BoxWave.

I would never leave it bare.... like I said better safe then sorry. Besides, who doesnt wear protection this day and age??

Love the Boxwave. It lays perfectly flat, no ripples or bubbles (and such things would make me nuts) and it has no negative affect on the usage of the touchscreen. Love the Boxwave.
I put one on my son's Droid as well, he has a rather good sized scratch in it and I can only imagine that, had the Boxwave not been there, his screen would not still be pristine. Love the Boxwave!

I went for a week or two without a screen protector and, guess what, it got scratched.

Sand, glass, anything SiO2 related will scratch that gorilla glass.

I got a phantomskinz protector and it rocks, I like it better than my invisibleshield that I had on my old phone. No apparent loss in touch sensitivity, easy to clean and keep clean.

If for no other reason, I like having my Phantom Skinz on there to help with fingerprints. Before my installation, fingerprints were a pain in the ass...after, I would say fingerprints/smudges probably decreased by 50%. I don't care what they say about Gorilla Glass, I wouldn't leave my $200 phone unprotected.

So far it's been my experience that the metal surrounding the screen is much more susceptible to damage. I carry my keys with my phone in my pocket and the black metal has a few small chips already. The screen is still like new.

I dropped mine in about 2" of fresh snow, in a parking lot. Oops. nice long hopping scratch. sucky. only really shows up on dark screens... but still, an expensive piece of machine that I totally screwed up.

I use the Motorola shell & holster with no screen protector. So far so good. Screen is pristine.

Site says "military grade." It looks pretty good, but no idea if it is as good as billed.

I installed a Verizon one and experience the issues you describe. I know that I will likely never use the two I have left, so I might go without any protection or get some new brand like you did.

I took a key to my screen protector and guess what? No scratches. Don't believe the key test. It's dirt and such that'll scratch a screen. I picked the $1 screen protectors from somewhere online and works awesome. Better than the ZAGG that I returned almost immediately!

I have used the Zagg Invisibleshiled as well, and they are not very good for the screens imo. FYI the Zagg, Phantom Skins, Ghost Armor, BSE are all the same "Mlitary Grade" urethane plastic. The only diference is how much you pay and where they ship from. All the military grade ones have a certain ammount of visual distortion and rubbery feel to them. They are great for body protection but not so snazzy on the screen. I will never stray from BoxWave again.

LOL, I now have 6 Verizon protectors - 1 used, 2 Phantom Skinz - 1 used, and a shiny new BoxWave on my Droid now.... what a waste of money And thats just for my Droid , dont get me started on my previous devices....

I use a screen protector because I just can. I never take my Droid to a dirty enviroment, definately not around sand or grit. What I do is use my old phone , I pay verizon for the extra line and forward the Droid to the old. I have 4 older phones and could careless about them.if anything happen to old phone I will just grab a different old phone.
A lot less stress this way in bad enviroment(beach) without worrying about my baby.
When I wear play or work clothes I have old phone ,all the other times my Droid.

I have been using the Verizon non privacy protector since day 1 of release. Absolutely perfect fit and no bubbles on either my wife's or my droid. I would like to know how to remove it because of an encounter with my 4 year old and a stoan coaster scratched the protector. Not bad just a little annoying. Again, if anyone knows how to remove them easily I would appreciate the info. Maybe I was too careful applying it but there is absolutely no place to grab the edge of it.

Stick a piece of tape on the edge of it and lift it gently. I did that a few times with my Boxwave when I applied it and needed to realign it...had to be as close to straight as I could get it. I can't stand a crooked or lopsided anything.
It works though, tape on the corner of the protector and a slight upward pull should get it moving!

i don't use a protector, but if i did, this would be an awesome tip. it's amazing that i haven't heard this one. i would get so pissed with my omnia and screen guards. +1

Alls I know is. Alls I know is don't get a skinomi. Fits nicely but it has a haze to it that is especially noticable in sunlight and it scratches easily. Plus I do believe I have to press just a little harder now.

I will be monkeying with getting it off and sending it back for a refund so I can try another brand.

Tape did not work. Scotch, masking nor duct. Even got brave and tried lifting the corner with a knife to no avail.
For scratches or chips in the paint try some of the car touch up paint. DupliColor universal black works great.

Tape will always work on a static type protector, it will NOT work on one of the military grade protectors. Make sure the protector is clean of oils ect, rub the tape down firmly on one of the corners and lift gently from the OUTSIDE of the corner in a slow pulling away and lifting at the same time motion. If that doesn't work then its not a static type protector.

I had one on my Droid at first that my Verizon salesguy put on for me. I had the same problem of the cover not adhering at the edges and eventually just took the thing off. I carry the holster and shell, so I'm not at all concerned with dropping my Droid; however, if I did, I doubt a screen protector would keep the screen from cracking. I'm not at all worried about scratches.
