Droid x Warranty

ok so my droid x is not sbf-able. ive tried tons of different things and its just not able to flash. i am 100% certain that its my phone and i want to try to replace it through the warranty that i have on it it has the superuser app on it even knowing its not rooted and i cannot remove it. i dont know if that effects the warranty or not. but is there anything that i can do to the phone so that i can send it in and get it replaced?

A few things:

a) what makes you think its your phone? Have you tried other computers? Have you tried the SBF linux boot CD? Have you tried both SBF files? I have serious doubts that a functioning phone (which means the whole filesystem is valid and functional) is somehow the reason the SBF won't work.

b) why do you think you deserve a warranty replacement because of this? Is your phone malfunctioning in any way? "I can't use an unsupported and leaked recovery mechanism to fix my phone when I break it doing warranty-voiding activities" is not a valid warranty claim.

I suspect if you try to return the phone they will charge you for the replacement. As they should.

So... I still don't think it's a valid warranty claim, and they would be perfectly within their rights to deny the warranty claim and charge you for your new device when they get the old one back and find it rooted.

there have been reports of people being back charged retail for warranty replacements on rooted devices...

have you tried the Gingerbread SBF file instead of the Froyo file??...

i have not, but what will that do as I am trying to get back to froyo and root that to get the pre rooted GB

Have you tried initiating the SBF process while phone was fully booted into GB? RSD will reboot for you and place the phone into bootloader.

Also, have you wiped data and cache from the stock Android recovery? (holding power and "home" key....then press BOTH up/down volume buttons at same time) maybe some weird file/data is preventing the SBF.

NEVER MIND ALL OF THIS! i just found out that i have insurance on it, so now i can just replace it for free!

insurance replacement isn't free if through asurion. It's like 90 bucks

you said you wanted to return the phone as a warranty replacement stock Gingerbread would raise less red flags to them at this point...

if its the "insurance" you sign up for when you sign a Verizon contract it is NOT free to get a replacement...used to be $50...now its much closer to $100 i believe
