Eris is acting like it has a virus?

Whenever im using the eris it seems to be messing up 80% percent of the it freezes up completely on me, it scrolls by itself, and when im texting it loves to just stop working...I use this eris as my work phone i have to text my boss alot and with my phone screwing up sometimes it takes me 10 min. just to send a text..also i performed a factory reset and my phones still doing the same exact thing..what should i do???

is it doing this when plugged in? how many apps do you have installed?

Yup still doing it when its plugged in and after that factory reset i only installed like 3 apps

If it is acting like that after a reset and both plugged in and unplugged then you need to visit a store or call tech support. It obviously isn't supposed to act like that so there has to be something wrong with it.

yeah sometimes being plugged in can make the screen a bit jumpy and sometimes loading 100 apps can make it lag but without those 2 conditions if you are still having issues you may need a replacement.

hi , me again with another dumb question, but i am starting to have problems with my phone acting like it is posessed when it is plugged in, and since i saw it referenced in this thread, i figured this would be the place to ask. my question is: what would cause it to act like this? and no it doesnt do it when the phone is unplugged. just curious. by posessed i mean the phone scrolls aroud by itself and things are highlighted in green. its weird. it does it with home charger and car charger, so is it a current thing maybe? and if so why did it not happen before?

well that is hard to say, might have bumped the port the wrong way and its not getting a good ground, or connection, idk, electronics can be finicky....fwiw i have never had a issue like some of you have on my phone ever, and i use a myriad of cables and chargers.

Im still confused... My Eris is acting the same way, ONLY when it is plugged in. Is there an app to search and destroy viruses or do I need to get a new phone? With the short life of a fully charged battery the cursor with a brain if its own makes using the phone very frustrating. Have you found anything that has worked for you?

The fact that you say it freezes up and scrolls on its own makes me think most likely trackball problems. I had the same issue before my refurb where my phone would freeze and FC apps a lot, as well as it scrolled left on it's own. I highly doubt it's a virus, most likely the same issue I had. (Trackball problems, call Verizon, tell them whats happening, say you think its a trackball issue, talk to them for a bit, explain the problems, they'll send you a refurb)

I could watch my phone scroll through screens as if being swiped and when I text the cursor jumps around all crazy and when i try to get it back to the end of the sentence the screen freezes. when I call someone it sometimes takes the phone a while to connect so long that i have already hit end and have started doing something else and then the phone will complete the phone connection and call the person i intended to call. it started all this whenever i was charging it while using it, so i thought that i should probably just turn it off to charge it but it has actually started happening more recently even when not charging, the cursor problem when texting has to be the more annoying problem of them all...its such a hassle and inconvenience!

Is the cursor scrolling left constantly? This is, unfortunately, a rather common problem with the Eris trackball (no matter what Verizon Wireless may tell you about not ever hearing about it). I'd say that the basic theory is that the USB connector on the phone is just under the trackball sensor and, probably because the cable that you used was moved slightly up and down while connected, has created a short in the trackball.

If your phone is still under warranty (unlikely - the phone has not been sold for over a year), you should be able to get a replacement. If you have Assurion coverage, they will be able to get you a new phone. Otherwise, it may be time for an upgrade.

Some people have either replaced the trackball with a replacement part for a Blackberry Pearl, or I think even removed it altogether. That seems extreme to me, but here is a link:
