Bionic and Galaxy S2 (and a bit of DX2)

Both seem to be "whenever" devices, since seems VZW is more into their Apple luv ATM. Still sticking with August/September time frame and since the apparent BS info that GS2 was August, I say Bionic in August and GS2 in September.

I was in England last week and messed with the GS2 for a while. Seems the common issue there is weak wifi, but a popular device, none the less. The 16gb version has 11.5gb free as "sdcard" and 1.89gb free for locked app storage.

Display is of course super sweet and was better in the sun than my non-super amoled Inc. It also did not seem to get as hot as I expected, since the Snap 8655 and Tegra 2 both get toasty in current devices (DX2 seems hotter due to the metal build).

Speaking of the wifi, it did seem as weak or weaker than the A500, which is pretty bad, so wonder if same issue in US versions? I also wonder if VZW will skimp on internal storage like they have with all other Sammy devices, compared to other carriers. None the less, the thin build and display were nice and apps were as fast as expected with a dual core.

Was considering getting the DX2 again, but there is ZERO sign any of the current issues will be addressed and some folks state they have no issues. The net effect is the issues will probably not get fixed, so I guess I will wait for the Bionic or GS2 and not deal with low memory issues (to name one of the issues on the DX2).

Still doubt the Bionic will be a 4.5" pentile, since seems that and LTE would mean trips to a charger every few hours.

If the Bionic is 4.3", 16gb built in with same great radios of other Moto devices, I will probably get the Bionic.... or maybe not. I guess I am just as aimless as VZW Android premium device efforts.

May just stick with my muddy call quality Incredible- out of spite until next year

I noticed you post about muddy call quality on your Incredible all the time. Is it really that bad for you? I haven't had any issues at all with call quality on mine.

Yep. About 30% of my calls get muddy (fluctuates during the call) and sometimes also appear to drop out like the caller/callee hung up and then it comes back.

Still, the things it does well offset this for me. Problem is the DX2 (when it behaved) made the Incredible seem like a G1 in comparison. My new point of reference has now placed my Incredible in a weaker light. Had Moto not borked the DX2 firmware/ram, I would be sticking with the DX2.

Bionic for me. I think it will be a great device just hope they dont screw it up with giving it little internal storage. I can live with a locked bootloader since moto is pretty good with updates and this would be their flagship phone and they would keep it updated. Just release the phone already.

I still doubt July, since just a few month turn around for a chipset change and mating LTE with it and retail ready in such a short runway seems impractical.

You do realize they have been working on this new version since like feb when they cancelled the first one? Trust me they had more than one version from the get go and since they already were going to make the targa(now being called bionic) they had time to work on it. Guess we will find out in a few weeks what is going to happen.

If I recall correctly, Moto officially nixed original Bionic back in April. News of redesigned Bionic came a few weeks after that. So I'm with rushmore on redesigned Bionic launching in August at the earliest.

They scrapped the original bionic (codename Etna) and are releasing a phone that was already in the works (codename Targa) under the name Bionic instead. It could easily be ready by end of July.

Whatever happens, you can bet Motorola is trying to get it out as soon as they can. Seems obvious the Bionic was a key to their revenue stream for their 2011 financial plan, so they need it released ASAP. I am stickin' with August though.

Given how the firmware was borked on the DX2, even with a more mature chipset and legacy items from the DX1- seems a "quick" release of the Bionic would be more issue prone.

I agree with the August speculators as well. And a Bionic and D3 launch close together is not exactly direct competition. One is for the heavy keyboarders, and one for the touchscreen fans. There will be some crossover as usual, but both should sell well. The D3 is looking like a very nice device, and is hyped to be one of the thinnest keyboard smartphones available.
