No sync w/ google after rom install

So I rooted and installed gingerbread-hero-1.2 from here (gingerbread-deck • View topic - [Official][6-25-11][ROM] gingerbread-hero-deck [1.2][2.3.4 Stable]) and the gapps w/ voicemail. Everything went fine but when I flashed the gapps zip it failed. Tried again and still failed. rebooted phone and it works pretty much but I can't log into/ sync w/ my google account. I set up the email part and works fine but calender/contacts/market stuff is no mass. What next?

Joe

You need those GApps or you can not do anything with Google services. My suggestion is to wipe your cache and Dalvik cache and try flashing the GApps again.

If that does not work, then do a complete wipe of everything and flash the ROM and the GApps again. Remember to do a Nandroid backup first and a complete wipe entails wiping data, cache, Dalvik cache, and then formatting boot, cache, data, and system.

Just finished re-flashing gingerbread and gapps and I get

E:missing file:system/app/BooksPhone.apk
E:Verification failed

Installation aborted.

???

What recovery are you using? I've read in another forum that it can be caused by your recovery. Also you can flash another gapps file from one of the other gingerbread roms and it should work, however they won't include visual voicemail.

So I've tried to re-download the gapps files to my pc but they are only 5k; I presume they're supposed to be bigger than that? After reflashing and rebooting (no recovery other than deleting data and dalvik) I get pretty much nothing. No market app, tried using browser to sign in to market page, there's no Gmail specific email app. When I try logging on using the stock email app it tries to sync me w/ an exchange server.

Now I can't get it to wake up.

What do you mean by can't wake up? Have you tried pulling the battery and booting back up?

And yes gapps files are bigger than 5k they should be in the 5mb range.

Found and downloaded the "full(?)" gapps w/ vm 5,7xxk. Tried to wipe cache and dalvik but gave me error can't wipe dalvik use adb. What is adb and how do I wipe via it? For now I'm nand restoring and hopefully will try again tomorrow.

Should I stop at KFC and get some chicken for a chicken sacrifice?

I have never gotten these errors before. Are you using ClockworkMod Recovery?

That is the recovery that you flash with ROM Manager. You should not need ADB to accomplish any of this.

@ LBP I have no idea what ClockworkMod Recovery is so no I'm not using it. Get it via phone or pc?

I am doing all this from a stock 1.5 Hero using the "How to Root" and "How to Flash" guides in this forum.

Thanks for the help so far.

You can easily flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Just download ROM Manager from the Android Market. Open up ROM Manager and the first option is to flash ClockworkMod Recovery. One you have that recovery installed, you should have an easier time wiping various things and flashing the GApps.

You may have to flash to an Android 2.1 ROM first, like Liquid Sense 2.1 to download ROM Manager. I am not 100% sure if ROM Manager is supported in Android 1.5.

Sucess loading Liquid! FWIW When I went to recovery to load Liquid 2.1 I saw "Build : RA-heroc-v1.5.2"

Ah. So you are running Amon RA Recovery.

Well, now that you have Liquid Sense 2.1 flashed, go ahead and install ROM Manager from the Android Market. You can then flash ClockworkMod Recovery. You should have smooth sailing with flashing new ROMs and GApps. Cheers.
